    • Capital Football Awards 2020
      • A wonderful evening was had at the Capital Football Awards on Wednesday. We were nominated for 4 awards (Personality of the Year, Capital Premier Player of the Year, Administrator of the Year and Match Day Programme). Unfortunately, we were not winners on the night but enjoyed celebrating with our fellow football community. Thank you all for your support and your votes. Highlights of the night include having our very own Jason Pine as MC, celebrating Sarah and Ben’s wedding anniversary, Billy “borrowing” some silverware for our table and seeing our very own Jan Lang and Leanne Stubbing still holding 1st and 3rd place respectively as most capped Women’s Premier players. It was a chance to reminisce about past seasons, catch up with old friends and acknowledge that football brings us all together.   Capital Football Awards: Results                                                                                 The post Capital Football Awards 2020 appeared first on Tawa AFC Wellington.

    • Food for thought
      • Come and try our new food – we think you will like it. Over the past couple of years, we have heard that some more food options would be good. Not just for us, but for our spectators or families. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good pie but maybe something different now and then when you just want something new. What should we do That is up to you as members and the people that come to the club. We have taken some of the ideas that have been communicated so far and we are going to slowly try them over the coming weeks. This year can be the trial. These options can be the start of making the menu amazing. We have to be practical about what those options are as we don’t want to be throwing away food. We don’t want the menu to be so complicated we need a fleet of chefs to make it. If you have any ideas, let your manager or coach know. Even better, pop in and tell us what you think in person. What are we doing in the kitchen Last week we trialled a couple of things which we will keep on the menu for a bit and see how they go. We have a few more ideas which we will introduce as the season goes on. The things that we trialled last week were: Bacon & Egg Panini Filled Rolls both Ham and Chicken One thing that we are trialling for the spectators is “Sideline Soup”. Simple soup in a cup that you can take down and support your favourite team with. Grab a cup at half time. Last week and this week we are going for Pumpkin, Coconut & Coriander. If this sounds like you come and grab a cup to keep the hands warm while out in the cold. For those that aren’t sure, talk to our top club man Steve Romijn about what he thought… We caught him licking the cup clean last week How are we doing it We are trialling a couple of things and the first things were out last week. There are a few more ideas and what we will do is introduce new ones to try and give some food alternatives. We don’t want to provide what you don’t want so ensure that you let us know what is good and what is not worth it. Look forward to seeing you at Redwood. Try the food, you wont regret it! • Reduction in Subs
      • I know it’s been a crazy time but congratulations on Level 1 and with it a Reduction in subs for Tawa. We all welcome the freedom that it brings within our borders and it’s super exciting to be back playing football. It was great to see people in the club again with seniors last week. I can’t wait to see our star-studded juniors take the field this week. What have we been doing? During this time your committee’s and representatives have toiled hard in the background to get this season up and running. One of the major focuses is how we ease the financial burden of playing the game while the economy continues to suffer at the hands of COVID19. Capital football has reduced our costs to a small extent and we have managed to find other ways to pass through reductions in fees. Across all of our members that looks very different and, there are many options about how we might make that happen. You will get specifics through your managers and Age Grade Coordinators in the coming days. We will change Comet and update our registration pages with the updates once everyone has been contacted. When will subs need to be made? To make these sort of things possible it is important that subs are paid prior to the 30th of June. If your payments are late, our cash flow is reduced and can lead to issues with meeting payment deadlines. Let’s get it all paid up by the 30th of June! We understand that the economy is hurting from the COVID19 pandemic. In turn, our members and supporters are going to be affected too. We want to support everyone as much as we can and so if there are any issues get in touch. We can work on a plan together and make sure that the game we love is available to all! • Season is almost here
      • It’s almost time for football! First games kick of this weekend for youth and seniors. It has been long awaited and I know everyone is eager to strap on the shinnies play some footy. With the relaxing of the mass gathering we do have some COVID19 commitments: Sanitise your hands before and after training Sanitise your hands before and after games Contact tracing for spectators via iDMe Maintain social distancing where possible Safety is paramount to all of our members, spectators and community so the clearest message that I can give – If you are unwell, stay home! We don’t want is another outbreak to be stuck at home again. There is plenty of time for football so if you are unwell, take the week off and take care of yourself Clubrooms are Open We look forward to the announcement by the government on the 8th about whether we head to level one. We hope this gives us more freedom to enjoy football but there will still be measures. Regardless, we are stoked to be able to open the clubrooms for the first week. There will be strict protocols that have to be followed to stay within the law and to keep people safe. More to come as we will be confirming these tonight. Good news for the juniors and seniors – the bar with be stocked with alcohol free, light in alcohol & a few full alcohol options tonight! Affiliation Fees During this time we have been frantically calculating with all the changes what subs allowances we can make and pass through to the members. We have some discounted fees and we are working through how we roll that out. There will be a couple of refund options that will be available if you have paid already. We hope to have more detail shortly but in the interim get onto MyComet and register. For more information see our junior and senior registration pages   I look forward to watching our troops battle it out in our first football week The post Season is almost here appeared first on Tawa AFC Wellington.

    • Lets play football again!
      • The long wait is almost over! Aunty Cindy and Daddy Bloomfield announced that we can play football again! With mass gathering restrictions will be raised to 100, Capital Football have confirmed the 2020 season is finally kicking off. It’s now time to clean off your boots, go for a run (or in my case casual walk) and make sure you are registered in Comet.  See our registrations page of seniors & juniors Key dates – From midday 29th May – your team can train together again in groups larger than 10 (talk to your manager, coach or grade coordinator for specific details relating to your team) 6th/7th June – Senior and Youth seasons kick off 13th June – Junior season kicks off First round draws will be published once Capital Football release them on the 30th of May!   Thanks to our volunteers, our fences have been put up and we are currently restocking the bar. Our club rooms will be open for post-match shenanigans from 6th June. There may be a few limitations but we will do what we can.   The health and well being of our club members is paramount, so keep an eye out for health and safety requirements. It is a key focus for Tawa AFC so we have invested in some things to help – watch this space, more to come.   We can’t wait to see our football family. • Tawa trains again
      • We are excited to announce that our teams can hit the fields again! WCC and Tawa have agreed a safe way to train again. There are a couple of things that we still have to do. That being said, the blistering speed of chasing down a through ball can once again be had. Pleased for all of us to get back out there with our mates to play the game. Few things that we have to do: Training groups can not be more than 10: If you have 15, split into 2 groups. Make sure those groups don’t swap or change. They must maintain 2m social distancing Sanitise our hands: Tawa have purchased plenty of sanitiser for all teams junior and senior. If in doubt, SANITISE. Sanitise before and after training Contact Tracing: For now, a paper form will be circulated around. We are registering for iDMe, the New Zealand Football app. We only need one, if worried though lets use both. With the paper forms, please take a photo after every training and send to admin@tawafootball.org.nz Wash the equipment: Keep the equipment clean and don’t share the equipment between groups of 10 These are all in line with the guidance of MoH and the government. We think these are prudent steps for us to stay safe during this time. I am so very pleased to be able to hit the football pitch again and I hope you are too! • COVID 19, Tawa & Training
      • Wow what a year 2020 is turning out to be. I hope everyone is keeping well and looking after themselves through the COVID crisis. I want to provide as much information as I to share with you what Tawa is doing to keep our community safe in the transition back to football. Tawa AFC doesn’t endorse any training under level 2 until the 25th of May. We are going to review this regularly and will update you as things change. There are many things that we must do as a club to get approval prior to starting club training. When we do get back to it – There will be comprehensive contact tracing for both Training & Games and we continue to work with Capital Football, Wellington City Council, New Zealand football and Sport NZ to see what that looks like. When I know, you will know! The important part is that our members, players, spectators, referees, coaches, families and communities remain safe as we return to the game we love. Here is the NZF guidance for Level 2 At this stage – the start of the season has a couple of options that were outlined by Capital football on Monday night although Tuesday and Wednesday bought further updates that changed the view: 30th of May – we hope for a start on the 30th of May, but my best guess is this is terribly unlikely given Government updates from Tuesday and NZF update from Wednesday 6th of June – This is more likely which is 2 weeks after the update to Mass gatherings limit updates from the Government 13th July – if I was a betting man this is where my money would be just due for the time it takes to get things rolling. None of these are confirmed and we all know things change everyday as interpretations are clarified and rules change. We will be updating you as regularly as possible to keep you in the loop. Key thing is if you intend on playing or are interested in playing for Tawa. Get into MyComet and register, the sooner the better – we have to give an updated team list to Capital football as soon as we can to play so ensure that your information is up to date in comet and get in touch with the Tawa team if you have any issues. Fees and any discounts that are being applied to applications have been outlined but we don’t know what that will look like until the season is confirmed At this stage our clubrooms and facilities will remained closed until it is safe and practical to open them up to members. What can you do now at level 2 – dust off a ball and kick it with Mum and Dad. Practice juggling and passing in the back yard. We will get some hints and tips from some of our top players on what that looks like and share that with you. I know a few of our senior members are staying fit with runs and bike rides. These are all good – please do it safely. Its not a time to get too adventurous but a run or getting your foot on the ball by hitting a ball into the fence is fine – Kids ask your parents first! We don’t want any broken windows J We want to do some social things to build our club connections – so check out Facebook pages (Tawa all & Juniors) and the website as we will have some events coming through on VC to bring us back to engaging together. They will be fun and interactive and would love to have as many people involved as possible. Watch this space as we continue to update you The post COVID 19, Tawa & Training appeared first on Tawa AFC Wellington.
