- Another light-ish week of cinema releases to report: Readings have so much confidence in the new Rob Schneider prison-comedy Big Stan that the only evening sessions are at a deadening 9.20pm at night. Good Keen Men at Suite

- Suite will show work by nine of New Zealand’s most-loved male artists from Wednesday 18 February 2009. Good keen men features John Gully, Theo Schoon, Bill Hammond, Keith Morant, Nigel Brown, Robin Morrison, Henry Winkelmann, George Chance and E. Mervyn Taylor. The exhibition shows rarely-seen works by many of the artists. Highlights include two Bill Hammond works on paper for the mid 1970s and two large vintage silver gelatine prints by Henry Winkelmann, a pioneer of New Zealand photography. Two mid-career Morrison works, from his ‘Images of a House’ and ‘Thorndon’ series juxtapose early 20th century photographer George Chance’s landscape work. Chance is known as a bestselling pictorialist photographer of his day. Good Keen Men runs from Wednesday 18 February to Saturday 7 March 2009.

- Around 8 years ago, the city of Wellington was in a turmoil. The aged forces of Waterfront Watch, an elderly bunch of Wellingtonians with time on their hands, decided to take on the Wellington City Council over their proposals for the waterfront land. The public was stirred up into a paroxysm of hatred for Variation 17 - what were portrayed as proposals by the WCC to allow building all over the waterfront. Waterfront Watch were largely successful, forcing the hand of the Council to reduce the scope of their ambitions, and lobbying hard for the creation of what is now Waitangi Park. And well done too - the park is great. But now there’s another proposal on the waterfront.

- WCC are reviewing the Residents Parking and Coupon Parking schemes in inner city suburbs, including Mt Cook. According to Wellington City Council, Mt Cook has 1248 households with an average of one car per household. There are 644 off-street parks, leaving 604 car owners to park in the 938 Residents or Coupon parks. In Mt Cook there are 726 residents or coupon excemption permits currently issued. On the face of it, all this seems fine. Are you having trouble parking in your street?
