No Match
- Zephyr Rovers FC
- Zephyr Rovers Manager Steve Hall said Rovers had a week off before the grading games started for the new season. "It will be a chance for a few players to recover from injury so we won't be doing any hard training this week" said Hall "we're mindful that even superb athletes like those in the Rovers squad need time out for other activities".

Te Papa turns TEN

- Wholly schmolly, has it really been 10 years ... yes, it has! In my early days in Wellington it was a goal of my ex-wife and I to at least stay in Wellington for the opening of Te Papa .. and now, here we both are able to celebrate its 10th Birthday.

To Rail or not to Rail
- Eye of the Fish
- The Wellington urban class really wants light rail. And why wouldn’t they? Light rail is sexy transit…cruise smoothly, comfortably, and quickly to the local tiki bar; no more lurching starts and stops, no more endless waits behind four other buses boarding at the stop on Willis Street, no more fighting with cars for road space. And so there seems to be a grumbling undercurrent regarding the position of the Ngauranga-to-Airport strategic study report.

A New Farm for Ohariu
- Eye of the Fish
- It has been confirmed that Meridian Energy plans to build a new wind farm in the Ohariu Valley, with 31 turbines across 4000 hectares. The proposed site is owned by 5 farmers, who banded together in 2002 to negotiate proposals with various energy companies. Talks had stalled over price issues in 2003, but recently an agreement has been reached. Having met with the community last night, it is unclear whether the project will face significant opposition from the local residents.

summer city
- The Wellingtonista
- For some of the smallest Wellingtonistas the most important part of the council's Summer City festival has finished with the end of Fairy Trina's wildly popular run of Enchanted Tales on Saturday. And this evening marked the end of a series of pretty interesting evening Gardens Magic events with a gig by OdESSA. But fear not - there's still lots more excitement for everyone between now and the end of March when the festival wraps up.

Ohtel by the Park
- Eye of the Fish
- Wellington’s buildings continue to surprise and delight me, relative newcomer as I am to this small, perfectly-formed city. It’s not a place that you could say has great traditions of anything in particular - it has demolished most, but not all of its Victorian heritage, has a fine collection of post-modern eighties buildings that have firmly gone out of style, with the remaining collection being eclectic at best, and motley at worst.

- Next in our series of overlooked Wellington public art is this beauty here to the right. If you've not seen it before I'd be extremely surprised, because it's plonked pretty much squarely opposite the Lido, somewhere seeming to always be awash with punters tipping the usual variety of liquids and solids into themselves.

Rovers Crash Out
- Zephyr Rovers FC
- Zephyr Rovers Chairmen George Nash said it was a sad day for the club after Rovers failed to make the top eight after a 9 - 4 loss to Mercer was followed by a win to Whites. "We looked safe with two weeks to go but we lost three on the trot so we have no excuses". Nash said the club would not be making any rash decisions with regard to the future of Manager Steve Hall. "We don't want to be hasty over our next move" said Nash "so we'll probably sack him tomorrow when we've had a chance to sleep on it".

Ground Effect Grubber Fest
- T3 Track Blog
- 3 has been neglected for way too long, but now it's all go again. Go, go go! Motivation was supplied by Ground Effect, in the form of a stylie cycling top as a spot prize. Lucky Carl was the winner of the top (see photo). But everyone was just stoked to be making such good progress. That's the thing about difficult tracks, they don't take muck digging (not like Lazy Fern, the easy highway that seemed to take an eternity to build). Yep, T3 is ripping along. Another few sessions and it should be rideable all the way to the top of Trickle Falls.

The hundredth kaka
- Karori Sanctuary Trust
- Kaka were extinct in Wellington for over 100 years until six captive-reared birds were released into the award-winning wildlife sanctuary in 2002. Since then several more captive-reared birds have been released, but the population has naturally increased at least ten-fold, and the birds are becoming an increasingly common sight in local parks and gardens.

These are the fixtures of your neighbourhood
- The Wellingtonista
- One of the things about living in a great city like Wellington is that there are a hell of a lot of things to take for granted. I mention this because while listening to Don McGlashan in Civic Square the other day he mentioned that Auckland doesn't really have any civic art. I'm not sure that's entirely true... But, in the spirit of parochial one-upmanship I thought I'd bring you some of Wellington's oft-overlooked art and sculpture.

Coffee in Newtown?
- The Wellingtonista
- Can anybody help me locate a decent coffee in Newtown during these interminable public holidays? Peoples’ is shut until Monday, as is the café at the Med. The only option I have located thus far is Eva Dixon’s at the Zoo (which was a lovely walk in the sun) but resulted in a small latté in a large takeaway cup topped by prodigious amounts of froth, cost me $5.20 including the surcharge, and tasted like filth. So, tomorrow I need a better option. Any ideas?
