Welcome to WCC Watch. The idea is pretty simple. Basically, the coverage of the upcoming (Sept-Oct) Wellington City Council elections are going to be sporadic at best. There are a multitude of personalities at play, some smart, bold, dynamic candidates, and some total fruit bars. I’ll be trying to cover everything I can to follow the election.

- Wellingtonista blogger Robyn Gallagher has had a fun morning trying out the new bus route – in both directions! She live tweeted the affair – you can read them on her twitter, or by using the hash tag #mannersbus If anyone has any photos – please send them through! Supreme Welly goes to long standing councillor

- Warm congratulations go out to Ruth Gotlieb who picked up the Supreme Welly award last night… Mrs Gotlieb served as a Wellington city councillor from 1983 to 2001 – seven consecutive terms for the Eastern ward – before shifting to the Capital & Coast District Health Board, from which she retired in October.

Meeting this week
- WCC Watch
- The first full council meeting for the 2010-2013 trianeum is this Thursday the 11th, starting at 9:15. They have not uploaded an agenda for the meeting, but once it is finalised it will be here. We won’t be able to make it to the meeting, but will be looking forward to reports. It will be fascinating to see the dynamics of the new council.

Recycling changes

- Many households over Wellington will have got a letter from the council this week asking if they would like their regular green recycling bin to be replaced with a 140 litre wheelie bin (or plastic recycling bags if you’re property isn’t “accessible”).
