WCC Watch / April 2011
Welcome to WCC Watch. The idea is pretty simple. Basically, the coverage of the upcoming (Sept-Oct) Wellington City Council elections are going to be sporadic at best. There are a multitude of personalities at play, some smart, bold, dynamic candidates, and some total fruit bars. I’ll be trying to cover everything I can to follow the election.

Wednesday’s council meeting
- WCC Watch
- As most of Wellington knows, the majority of the council have forced it to sit for an “extraordinary” meeting, at 5:31pm Wednesday, to deal with the situation of the council’s position to the NZTA proposals, despite Celia’s best efforts to delay the situation.

“But hey, I have red hair”
- WCC Watch
- The saga over Celia’s public bullying of her deputy, Ian McKinnon, is only getting stranger. She’s now shrugging off her offensive actions due to the colour of her hair… Yesterday Ms Wade-Brown played down the incident, saying it would have been “more appropriate” to have the discussion in private, “but hey, I have red hair”.

Snapper for trains?
- WCC Watch
- Very interesting revelation in today’s Dom Post that the GWRC is missing out on about $9,000 in train fares every weekday because the trains are too crowded for ticket collectors to get to the patrons… It was revealed today that Greater Wellington regional council has lost about $260,000 as overcrowding on trains prevents staff from collecting fares.

Wellington: screwed
- WCC Watch
- So not only are many of our buildings going to collapse – but it seems that the very building that houses our city council is an earthquake risk. Given how vital the WCC will be to any disaster efforts, this is very scary. The article is very light on details – particularly how much it would cost to fix the problem. If anyone has any more information – please send it through.
