    • Future of the Central Library consultation
      • The Central Library has been our city’s living room and a vital part of our vibrant inner city for decades. The building itself isn’t safe to use. There are several ways to make it safe for people to be in, which also brings new possibilities in using the space. This is our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to set up the central library to continue to support Wellington's diverse communities for at least the next 50 years. Before decisions can be made on the future Central Library in October 2020 - we need to know what you think!

    • Fale Malae
      • Wellington’s Waterfront is going to be quite full, or so it seems. Yesterday the WCC agreed in principle to the proposed Fale Malae being proposed for the waterfront, or at least for them to go forward to the next phase of planning. This is the same Fale that was proposed for a site up near Parliament (on Bunny St, between the Victoria School of Law in the old Government Buildings, and the VUW Business School in Rutherford House). Evidently someone has ruled that the parliamentary site was unsuitable, and so Frank Kitts Park has been proposed instead.

    • Metlink to trial new and free fares in the New Year
      • Metlink announced today that it will be trialing a range of new fares in March next year, including free or heavily discounted fares on weekends. Details of the trial are yet to be fully developed but could include a range of discounted, bundled and even free fares on the region’s bus and train services. Scott Gallacher, General Manager for Metlink, says the trial will help provide valuable demand insight to help plan for growth and service design changes in the future as well as pave the way for new fare products as part of the introduction of integrated ticketing system.

    • Metlink On Demand bus-hailing service to be extended after successful trial
      • A public transport service for the ride-hailing era is expanding in reach. Metlink On Demand, the app-based, demand-driven bus service, will cover a larger area following a decision by Greater Wellington councillors on 22 June. Metlink On Demand finished a successful 12-month trial on 16 May, having completed over 40,000 trips for the community. The trial will now be extended for another year, and the service will be expanded from Tawa and Grenada North to include Porirua CBD. As the trial continues, Metlink will also assess the viability of extending the service to Aotea and Cannons Creek.

    • Christmas Appeal 2024
      • Christmas can be a difficult time for many of our residents, as it often brings additional financial and emotional stress. The pressure of covering extra costs, looking after themselves, or making the holiday special for their family—especially if they have any children—can feel overwhelming. Some may even find this season to be a triggering time due to past experiences or isolation.

    • Review: Professor Wild Returns
      • I’ve never seen a show at the zoo before, but that’s where Professor Wild Returns takes me for my first review of NZ Fringe 2023. Another entry in the incredible Austin Harrison Theatrical Universe, this solo show resurrects Harrison’s segment ‘Professor Wild’ from What Now in 2009 as a full-length show for adults, set amongst the climbs of the […]

      • Former Solnet player Pete Roberts has been recalled to the Rovers squad for Wednesdays match against Solnet. "Pete always likes a chance to play against his old club so I brought him into the squad for this match" said Zephyr Rovers Manager Steve Hall "we can only hope he lasts longer than the one minute he survived in the first match against Solnet".

    • Competitive memorial
      • The Ministry for Culture and Heritage has done the right thing and called for a competition to design the Buckle St New Zealand Memorial Park that I mentioned last month. It's not a completely public competition like the original Waitangi Park design process, so don't rush out and send in an entry unless you've got a good architectural CV to your name.

    • Let's Go - McIntosh In Charge
      • Zephyr Rovers are without Manager Steve Hall and Chairman George Nash for their first up grading game tomorrow at the Shed of Dreams. "We've only got five starting players and have nominated Col as Manager for the day" said Hall "but we're still thinking the boys will put up a reasonable display providing they find someone to fill the difficult goalkeeper role".
