Mauled Mall - Bus Route
- Eye of the Fish
- As you’ve probably noticed, the WCC is canvassing for opinions on the proposed change to the bus route through Manners Mall. We’re a bit surprised how little public dialogue there has been so far on the proposal - and so we thought we’d open up a place for your informal dialogue and discussion to go. The picture above is of Manners Mall, taken on the corner of Cuba, just a few d

BNU16 v Naenae Nighthawkes 30/5/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- Naenae Nighthawks 1 v BNU16 2 Last gasp victory at Naenae Centre-back Mike Bransfield atoned for last week’s unfortunate OG by grabbing a dramatic winner for BNU with seconds remaining on the clock at Seddon Street. Bond Street needs us
- The Wellingtonista
- So I’ve been thinking about Bond Street for a while. Council is currently planning changes to the area. Submissions are open on Traffic Resolution TR70-12 (PDF). The rationale for the change is reasonably strong – 7 reported crashes at the intersection of Bond and Willis Streets since 2010. The basic proposal is also reasonable – closing the intersection and making the west section of Bond Street into a cul-de-sac.

There’s a new kid on the block…
- Cycling in Wellington
- Opening officially today is “Bicycle Junction”; the latest addition to Wellington’s cycling scene. Brooke from Mamachari and Dan from Crank Cargo have joined forces to open a new urban cycling store in Newtown. They sell a range of bikes – refurbished imports through to Christiania trikes – plus all the accessories one could dream off… including my favourite, cup holders! And once permits have been approved they’ll also be serving coffee… can’t wait!

DCM Bulletin - Our Cupboards are Bare
- Downtown Community Ministry
- The Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) foodbank is almost empty. We’ve seen a 44% increase in the number of food parcels given out in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same quarter in 2010. “The situation is dire, we’re seeing a huge increase in the number of people we’re supporting even though our foodbank is only open 2 afternoons a week”, says Stephanie McIntye, director of DCM.

Marcus Ganley has a good idea
- WCC Watch
- I see that one of the Lambton Ward candidates is campaigning for more openess and transparency at Wellington City Council and has a poll running on the sorts of things that should be more open such as payments made to councillors and voting records. Might be worth a look and a vote. If he doesn’t make it, it would be good for someone to pick up these proposals.
