There’s More To Photography Than You Realise
- Jack Yan
- These days, just about everyone has the easiest possible access to a camera. Thanks to the convenience of smart phones, most people have the ability to take reasonably high resolution photographs at all times, and the small file sizes allow many hundreds or even thousands of photos to be taken and saved without a hitch. This of course opens the door to photography as a hobby for many, but it’s unfortunately a bit more daunting than many people realize. Photography is a true art form. There are many aspects at play, especially composition. There’s so much more going on than merely getting something in focus. The way your subjects are framed and how you use different lenses makes all the difference in the end product. Depending on how you take a photo, it can take on any number of different atmospheres or moods. If you want to delve deep into the artistic aspects of taking photos, it’s going to take serious study and practice. That said, it’s easy to become a bit snooty over “point and click” digital photos. Though some may look down on it, there’s not much harm being done by someone documenting their day to day lives with quick cell phone photographs. If that’s the furthest someone wants to go with taking pictures, then that’s fair enough. As long as there’s an emotional connection of some sort, there’s certainly some level of value there. Personal photos have been around for a long time now and they certainly aren’t going away! The silver lining however is that there truly is more to photography than some might realize. If you happen to fall in love with taking pictures even with your phone, there’s a much deeper world you can potentially explore from there. Because of this, more and more people are being turned on to photography every day, and that’s nothing but a good thing. Go get your Wellington Photographer today! Top Places To Go In Wellington New Zealand
- Jack Yan
- For many New Zealand visitors, a tour of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city since 1865 is top on their agenda. Dubbed as the cultural centre of New Zealand, Wellington has developed over the years to be much more than just the focal point of the New Zealand government. Chief among these developments is Wellington’s rise to a top tourist destination. Wellington has consistently been named as the best tourist destination in New Zealand in many tourism surveys. The numerous attractions in and around the ‘coolest little capital in the world’ have played a huge part in making wellington a top destination in Asia-Pacific. Herein, we are going to explore a wide variety of attractions in the city. These are the top places to go whenever you are in Wellington to appreciate the culture, history, and beauty of this city. #1. Mount Victoria – For anyone seeking to appreciate the beauty of Wellington, his or her first stop should be the Mount Victoria Lookout. Rising 196 metres above the city, Mount Victoria provides a panoramic view of the city and harbour that no other place can. Moreover, you do not have to travel very long to surmount Mount Victoria. Just a short drive or walk will get you there. Once there, enjoy a pristine view of the Hutt Valley, the Miramar Peninsula, the Somes Island, and Eastern Bay harbour. #2. The Bays And Beaches – Wellington has some of the best bays and beaches in the world. The sparkling water surrounding much of the beaches around wellington awe any and every visitor. It, therefore, is a no brainer as to whether to visit some of bays and beaches – you should not dare leave wellington without sampling its waterfront amenities. Among the notable waterfront amenities where you can enjoy sunbathing, boating, surfing, or even scuba diving include oriental bay, island bay, Days Bay & Eastbourne, Scorching Bay, Shelly Bay, and Lyall Bay #3. Wellington Zoo – For wildlife lovers, a visit to the Wellington Zoo is a must. Well, it is by no means a big safari destination but you are guaranteed to see some of the most amazing wild animals on the planet. Among the animals, you are bound to see include the cheetahs, giraffes, blue-tongued skinks, cape barren goose, brown capuchin, bearded dragon, baboons, kangaroos, kakas, iguana, guinea fowl, and many mammals, insects, and reptiles. Moreover, aside from just visiting the zoo, you can book a close encounter with your favourite animal, thus making the visit much more memorable. #4. Zealandia Sanctuary – The Wellington Zoo is a good place to go and appreciate some wildlife. However, to truly appreciate native wildlife that New Zealand was blessed with, you have to move to visit Zealandia. Zealandia is the first fully-fenced urban wildlife sanctuary that was set up to restore the natural glory of the Wellington Valley as much as possible. The fence has proved pivotal in negating incursions from human introduce predators, thus allowing the 18 original animal species, which include kakas, kereru, tuis, and kiwis to thrive in their natural habitat. The centre of attraction is the Sanctuary Valley, with its 225 hectares of land for the wildlife to thrive. You can opt for day tours around Sanctuary Valley and explore its beauty under the sun. On the hand, you can opt for a night tour which gives you a chance for torchlight walks where you get to explore the nocturnal life around the sanctuary. #5. Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa – For a better understanding of New Zealand, head to Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum. There you acquaint yourself with the best of New Zealand’s culture, history, art, environment, and geology. With showcases such as Simon Denny’s Secret Power and Maori exhibitions, you not only get a glimpse of New Zealand’s history but also its current place in the world. #6. Wellington Museum – Aside from the Te Papa, the Wellington Museum is another great venue for Wellington visitors to appreciate the history and story of Wellington. There are numerous artefacts within the 1892 heritage building for you to attain a proper understanding of the capital city of New Zealand. Some of the exhibitions include Ngā Heke, The Bond Sore, Telling Tales, the Von Kohorn Room, and the attic. #7. The New Zealand Portrait Gallery – The New Zealand Portrait Gallery is another great place to learn about the history of New Zealand and her people. This facility is particularly important as it educates visitors on the people that have influenced New Zealand’s course of history. Through the donated and sponsored portraits found within the gallery, visitors get to learn how various eminent personalities influenced New Zealand. The combination of the above museum and galleries will give you an intricate understanding of Wellington as well as an understanding of New Zealand as a whole. You can find more galleries on page 2 or 3 of Google (they obviously haven’t been optimised by a Wellington SEO company), as Wellington is chock-full of artsy places for the avid traveller and there’s too much to cover here. #8. The Weta Studios – Wellington is the capital of New Zealand’s movie industry. It, therefore, makes sense to take a movie tour and enjoy what New Zealand has to offer in as far as making movies is concerned. In this regard, why not head to the Weta Studio on the Miramar Peninsula. Get up close and personal to movie props, weapons, models, and miniatures. Additionally, you can purchase souvenirs to take with you. Once you are done with the Weta Studio tour, you can visit some of the famous Lord of The Rings filming location, many of which are in Wellington. #9. The Space Place at Carter Observatory – For the vast majority of space enthusiast, a tour of the Space Place might be the only interest in Wellington. The Carter Observatory has helped explore the southern skies for decades now, helping scientist and humanity understand the origin of the universe. A visit to Space Place may entail visiting the planetarium shows (and viewing its digital films of the southern skies), and telescope viewing. In all, you will be better educated on matters of the skies after a tour of Space Place. There are other numerous attractions in Wellington that will give you an in-depth understanding of the city. They include National War Memorial, Katherine Mansfield Birthplace, Mount Kaukau, Beehive, the Wellington Botanic Garden, and many other attractions.
