      • Club Shooting It was another successful evening for our D Graders last night. Ellie Mazey's 95.3 led ahead of Kate Yu's 95.2 and Analin Rudd and Ewan Mirza both with 94.2. In C Grade, Finn Ashby's 97.4 put him one point higher than Jaz Hamilton's 96.1. Stephen Thessman scored highest in B Grade with 97.6 ahead of a flurry of 95s by Dianne Grain, Inge Little, and Mark Riley. Evan Little led A Grade with 98.5 followed by David Grain's 97.4. David followed up with a 198.13 to have the highest 20 shot of the night, ahead of Erin Little's 197.8.   NDC Round 5 of the NDC competition was shot on Thursday night. It was a tough match against second placed Hutt Valley, but Wellington managed to record a win in the composite section. This was enough to retain our third placing and secure a spot in the semi-finals. Top shot from Brooklyn in the Open team was Meredith Ackrill with 295.21. Top shot from Brooklyn in the Composite team was Stephen Thessman with 291.12. Top shot from Brooklyn in the Junior team was Ben Dunning with 192.7. Congratulations also to Jaz Hamilton, who scored a commendable 292.12 for his first time in the team. This included a new 20 shot PB of 194.8!   Manawatu Open Champs Meredith Ackrill travelled to Palmerston North on Saturday to compete in the Manawatu Open with great success. She won A Grade with a score of 298.17. She then shot in the Final 10, scoring 199.11 to place 3rd overall - congratulations! Closed Champs Results for Round 4 of the Closed Champs competitions have been published. It's a close competition in all grades, with Brooklyn shooters fighting hard to hold on to their placings. Current standouts are: Bex Baines: 2nd Womens, 3rd Master Grade Meredith Ackrill: 3rd A Grade Cassie Truscott: 3rd B Grade Jaz Hamilton: 2nd C Grade Josh Whitehead: 3rd D Grade Megan Brodie: 2nd Juniors (with a score of 100.9, a new PB, this round - congratulations!) A reminder of the competition rules, for those who may not know: targets must be shot on the shooter's official club night. For Brooklyn members, this means Sundays. Please keep an eye on the dates that each round is due by. It may be a good idea to shoot the rounds a week in advance so that you are not disadvantaged by unforeseen circumstances such as illness. Round 5 is due on Sunday 8 August.   SSS Champs The results for Round 2 of the Secondary Schools Shooting Championship have been published, and some Brooklyn members are doing exceptionally well. Megan Brodie scored another 100.6 to have a running total of 200.12, maintaining her A Grade lead and moving her into top spot overall. Cassie Truscott is currently leading B Grade by three inners. The Wellington College team have maintained their spot in 14th place while the Marsden team have dropped to 21st.       • Club Shooting For the second week in a row, all our D Graders recorded scores in the 90s. The top two scores were both PBs for their respective shooters: Analin Rudd scored 96.4 and Ellie Mazey scored 96.1 - congratulations! Jaz Hamilton's 98.4 was top of C Grade followed by Finn Ashby's 94.1. In B Grade, only 3 inners separated the top two scores. Ben Dunning's 98.6 led ahead of Clive Brodie's 98.3. The top score of the night, 99.8, was shot by Meredith Ackrill with Megan Brodie close behind on 98.6. The lead switched in the 20 shots, with Megan scoring 198.13 and Meredith 195.10.   Interclub Round 4 of the interclub competition was shot on Wednesday night. The C Grade team unfortunately lost to Wellington Central. Top shot for Brooklyn was Jaz Hamilton with 96.4. The Open team recorded a win against Wellington Central to move into 1st equal place with Melrose. Top shot for Brooklyn was Meredith Ackrill with 198.9.    Wellington Open Champs The Wellington Open Champs was held on Friday and Saturday. Many thanks to everyone who helped run Brooklyn's section of the event - there were several positive comments about our organisation! It was good to see lots of club members compete, with some fantastic results: Bex Baines (297.19): top Wellington Master Grader and top Wellington Woman Megan Brodie (296.20): 1st in A Grade and top Wellington A Grader. Megan also competed in the Final 10 and placed 5th overall Jaz Hamilton (289.9): 2nd C Grade and top Wellington C Grader Meredith Ackrill, Megan Brodie and Erin Little (886.46): 2nd in the Teams Competition Well done also to those members who participated in their first open competition.   Manawatu and Levin Open Champs Details of this weekend's Manawatu Open Champs and next weekend’s Levin Open Champs are in the attached flyers.  Members without a firearms licence wishing to participate in the Manawatu competition should advise Inge by Wednesday evening.  Members with a firearms licence may be able to assist with getting gear to the event for you.   Members without a firearms licence wishing to participate in the Levin competition should speak with Craig and Inge on Sunday to try and arrange similar support for next weekend.   Members can find information about future indoor competitions on the Target Shooting NZ (TSNZ) website.   Upcoming events Thursday 22 July, NDC Round 5, 7.30pm.       • Club Shooting It was a tough competition amongst the D Graders at the club last night, with all five present shooting in the 90s. Ewan Mirza's 94.3 came out on top ahead of Kate Yu's 93.3 and Analin Rudd's 93.1. Jaz Hamilton continued his on-form shooting, scoring 99.2 to lead C Grade ahead of Jack Day's 95.3. 96.2 was the score of the night for our B Graders, with four members (Clive Brodie, Inge Little, Stephen Thessman, and Cassie Truscott) achieving this score to share top honours for the grade. Top spot in the higher grades was also hotly contested. Evan Little's 100.7 came in one inner ahead of Megan Brodie's 100.6 - great shooting from both! Megan's fine form continued with her 197.13 the highest 20-shot of the night, followed by Meredith Ackrill's 196.9.  Closed Champs The results for Round 3 of the Closed Champs competition have been published. At the halfway mark for the competition, Brooklyn members continue to hold on to their good placings: Bex Baines: 2nd Master Grade, 1st Womens Erin Little: 2nd A Grade Meredith Ackrill: 3rd A Grade Cassie Truscott: 2nd B Grade Jaz Hamilton: 2nd C Grade Ewan Mirza: 3rd D Grade Wellington Open Champs - 16 & 17 July Wellington Smallbore Rifle Association (WSRA) is hosting the Wellington Open Championship competition on 16 and 17 July.  All BSRC members are encouraged to participate in the competition, regardless of grade or experience.  This is a great opportunity for those new to shooting to have a go at a competition on our home range.   Junior members are encouraged to come along on Saturday morning to participate in shooting, as our coaches will be there to assist you.   Next Week Sunday 18 July is week 2 of the 3rd series in the Club Competition Targets for Round 4 of the Closed Champs Competition are due Sunday 18 July Marking Course - Reminder The Wellington Association is running a marking course at 10am on Sunday 25 July. This course is free for association members, and open to others wishing to support the sport.       • Club Shooting Analin Rudd led D Grade with an excellent D Grade score of 95.3, Ewan Mirza followed with another excellent D Grade score of 94.2. Our newest members are putting in some great effort and their scores are reflecting that. Jaz Hamilton's 98.4 was the top score in C Grade, followed closely by Jack Day's 97.4. Several of our B graders shot 97 this week; Cassie Truscott and Dianne Grain both getting 97.6 and Mark Riley 97.2. Megan Brodie had a great night shooting (100.9 for her estimated Closed Champ score, 100.6 and 98.8 for her club cards). Meredith Ackrill's 99.6 was the next highest 10 shot for the night. Top honours for the 20 shots this week went to Megan with 198.11.    Training Thanks to Mark Robinson for running our 'Junior Training Session' and many thanks to Cassie for being our scribe. A reminder of your homework - get yourself a notebook just for shooting and write into it the shooting steps which Cassie wrote up on the board (photo below).  Mark says "your homework will be checked next week!” - so bring your notebook to shooting.   Next Week Sunday 11 July is the start of the 3rd series in the Club Competition.    School students: Round 2 targets for the Triple S Champs need to be shot by Sunday 11 July.   Wellington Open - 16 & 17 July Wellington Smallbore Rifle Association (WSRA) is hosting the Wellington Open Championship competition on 16 and 17 July.  All BSRC members are encouraged to participate in the competition, regardless of grade or experience.  This is a great opportunity for those new to shooting to have a go at a competition on our home range.   Junior members are encouraged to come along on Saturday morning to participate in shooting, as our coaches will be there to assist you.   You will have seen the email on Sunday requesting assistance in helping run the event.       • Club Shooting It was a bit different at the club last night with Level 2 restrictions meaning only half the mounds could be used. Despite this, there was plenty of shooting done and some good scores recorded. Kate Yu led D Grade with a new PB of 97.1 - congratulations! Ewan Mirza followed with another excellent D Grade score of 95.1. It's great to see our newest members steadily improving. Jaz Hamilton's 97.3 was the top score in C Grade, followed by Finn Ashby's 94.3. Cassie Truscott's 98.5 took the top spot in B Grade ahead of Inge Little's 96.3. Meredith Ackrill's 99.6 was the highest 10 shot for the night, one point ahead of Evan Little's 98.7. Top honours for the 20 shots this week were shared between three shooters, with Meredith Ackrill, Evan Little, and Cassie Truscott all shooting 196.9.    Wairarapa Open Several Brooklyn members travelled to Masterton on Saturday to compete in the Wairarapa Open Champs.       • Club Shooting Wynter Tickle led D Grade this week with a 94.2, followed by Graham Tickle's 92.2. Top shot for C Grade was Jaz Hamilton's 95.2 ahead of Jack Day with 92.2. Inge Little scored highest in B grade (98.5) with Clive Brodie a point behind (97.3). Bex Baines' 100.5 was top shot for the night with Meredith Ackrill close behind on 99.5. Top honours for the 20 shots were shared by Mark Baines and Erin Little, both scoring 194.8.    SSS Champs Scores for the first round of the SSS champs have been published. Megan Brodie's 100.6 has her placed 1st in A Grade and 3rd overall currently. Cassie Truscott is placed 1st in B Grade. The Wellington College team is ranked 14th, with a score three points higher than the 15th ranked Samuel Marsden team. If you have any questions about college shooting, please direct your queries to Craig Fair or Stephen Thessman, who are running the college shooting programme this year.   Marking Although we all come for the shooting, the marking of targets is also a crucial part of the sport. Everyone should learn to mark - both to help out with the running of the club, and to give you the skills to check that your targets have been marked correctly. Come along to the marking room at the beginning of a squad you are not shooting on to have a go. If you are very keen, the Wellington Association is running a marking course at 10am on Sunday 25 July. This course is free for association members. See the marking course poster for more details, and register by emailing Bev Newton. For all markers, some housekeeping to keep the marking room running smoothly.       • Club Shooting It was another busy night at the club with Brooklyn hosting Round 3 of Interclub. Many thanks to everyone who helped this run smoothly.   Top shot in D Grade was Chris Dunning with 95.3 followed by Kate Yu's 93.2. Jaz Hamilton led C Grade with a score of 97.4. Ross Little's 97.3 was the top score in B Grade ahead of Cassie Truscott's 96.5. David Grain and Erin Little shared top honours for the higher grades, both scoring 98.5. The top two 20 shot scores of the night were recorded by members of our Open Grade interclub team (perfect team selection!). Megan Brodie scored a new PB of 199.11 to come in one point ahead of Bex Baines' 198.11 - congratulations!   NDC Round 3 of NDC was shot on Thursday night. Wellington recorded a clean sweep against Canterbury, winning in all sections. Top shot in the Junior team was Megan Brodie with 198.10, placing her second out of all the juniors in Division One. Top shot for Brooklyn in the Composite team was Stephen Thessman with 287.10. Top shot for Brooklyn in the Open team was Erin Little with 295.15.   Hutt Valley Open Champs Several Brooklyn members attended the Hutt Valley Open on Saturday and shot well against some tough competition. Erin Little placed 3rd in A Grade with a score of 295.15. Stephen Thessman placed 3rd in B Grade with a score of 288.10.   Interclub The Interclub competition continues to be challenging across all grades. Unfortunately our C Grade team recorded a loss against a strong South Wellington team. Top shot for Brooklyn was Jaz Hamilton with 91.0. However, our B Grade team won by 3 points against Wellington Central. Top shot for Brooklyn was Cassie Truscott with 96.5. Our Open Grade team had a phenomenal win of 19 points against South Wellington, recording a total score of 790.42. Top shot for Brooklyn was Megan Brodie's 199.11.   Closed Champs The results from Round 2 of the Closed Champs competition have been published and Brooklyn members continue to place well.       • Club Shooting There was a good turnout of members at the club last night despite the long weekend. Top shot for D Grade was hotly contested with almost all of our 11 D Grade members present. Ewan Mirza gained top honours with a new PB of 94.4 - congratulations! He was closely followed by Chris Dunning's 94.2. Jaz Hamilton's 98.5 led C Grade ahead of Finn Ashby's 94.1. In B Grade, Cassie Truscott's 98.5 was mere inners ahead of Dianne Grain's 98.2. Top shot of the night was Megan Brodie with 100.6 followed by Bex Baines' 99.5. Hastings and Hawkes Bay Opens Meredith Ackrill took a trip up north over the weekend and shot extremely well in the Hastings and Hawkes Bay Open Championships. She made the final 10 in the Hastings Open on Saturday, shooting 200.13 to come first overall. She then continued her good form at the Hawkes Bay Open on Sunday, scoring 292.25 to come 2nd in A Grade. Congratulations!   Next weekend Brooklyn is hosting the Interclub competition on Sunday 13 June. The squads at 7.45, 8.15, and 8.45 will be reserved for people shooting in this match.       • It was another busy week at the club last night.  Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help run a smooth club night.   Club Shooting In D Grade this week, Jack Day's 92.2 took top honours ahead of Josh Whitehead's 92.1. Jaz Hamilton's 97.3 was the top score in C Grade. Cassie Truscott led B Grade with 98.4 followed by Dianne Grain and Stephen Thessman, both with 97.3. Erin Little was top of the higher grades with 99.7 followed by Bex Baines' 99.4. In the 20 shots, David Grain scored 197.11 with Bex Baines only an inner behind on 197.10.   Interclub Round 2 of the interclub competition was shot on Tuesday evening. The Brooklyn C Grade team was on form, beating Melrose by 14 points. Top shot was Jack Day with 96.2. It was a much closer competition in the Open Grade but unfortunately the Brooklyn team lost by 2 points to Melrose. Top shot was Erin Little with 196.13. Round 3 will be hosted by Brooklyn on Sunday 13 June.   Next weekend: With the long weekend for Queen’s Birthday next weekend, quite a few members will be away.  The club will still be open for members only - thanks to those senior members who will be there for making this happen. Entries in the Closed Champs Round 2 must be completed by Sunday 6 June.  Contact Inge if you are unsure if you have completed your card. Hutt Valley Open The Hutt Valley Open Championship is on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 June at the Petone Range (see attached flyer). Open Championships are a great way to get experience in competition shooting and meet the wider shooting community. They are open to TSNZ affiliated members who are shooting in the sling and jacket. The competition consists of three 10 shot targets. If you would like to attend this Open, please advise Craig and Stephen by Sunday 6 June so that gear and coaching can be arranged.       • Club shooting It was a busy evening at the club with 5 members moving to sling and jacket and 9 visitors. Many thanks to everyone who helped the night run smoothly.   Top shot in D grade this week was Kate Yu's 95.4 - especially impressive considering this was Kate's first night using the sling and jacket! Jack Day's 95.2 was only a couple of inners behind. Jaz Hamilton led C grade with a 97.4. Dianne Grain's 99.4 was top of B grade ahead of Inge Little's 97.4. Bex Baines led the higher grades with a 99.5 followed by Megan Brodie's 98.7. David Grain's 197.11 was the top 20 shot of the night ahead of Erin Little's 195.8.   NDC The second round of the National District Champs was held on Thursday. Wellington shot extremely well against a tough Waikato team to secure a win of 9 points over Waikato's 4. Evan Little was top shot from Brooklyn in the Open team, scoring 294.16. Stephen Thessman was top shot from Brooklyn in the Composite team with a score of 292.9.
