50th Anniversary Excursions Announced

- To celebrate our 50 years of heritage rail we are offering members, past members and the public to join us for a day trip from Wellington to Woodville and return. We are using all our locomotives and carriages and offering four options for the day. Ja 1271 & Ab 608 will be at the head of the 'Coastal Steam' , and our pair of Da's, 1410 & 1431 will head up the Wairarapa with the 'Bush Rambler'. An excursion like this has NEVER happened before!

Two vessels broke off a mooring drifted onto rail bridge

- Operation Details Date/Time: Sun, 28/06/2020 - 08:30 - 10:30 Operation Type: CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted: 0 Total Volunteer Hours: 14 Two vessels were "rafted up" on a mooring in the channel. The mooring appears to have broken below the waterline and the vessels were swept onto the rail bridge with the incoming tide. Coastguard Mana were alerted to a Facebook post a member of the public had posted and went to invetigate. After assessing the situation it was decided to get them off quickly to minimise damage and risk to trains. A callout was activated and a number of people responded to tow them off the bridge and into the marina. Tunnel 1 Upgrade Work

More Matangi in service

- Twenty new Matangi trains are now in service on the Hutt Valley and Kapiti lines. These trains are operating thirty-one return trips every weekday. In addition to a number of off-peak services, the Hutt line has Matangi operating on seven return services during the morning peak and five return services during the evening peak. The Kapiti line has seven evening peak services and five morning peak services delivered by Matangi.

- Today, Matangi services more than doubled on the Kapiti and Hutt Valley lines – increasing from the current 14 daily return trips to more than 30 return trips every weekday. Tranz Metro Manager Scott Brooks, calls it great news for commuters “who we know have felt the impact of service disruptions over the last couple of weeks, and we are very pleased to be able to bring them some good news.”

Our Christmas bus replacements have an upside for the Wellington Tramway Museum
