    • BNU Div 16 26/04/2009
      • A classic local derby full of controversy, goalkeeping howlers, total commitment, raucous home support and a fortunate 4-3 victory for the Pints. The absurd length of the Pints subs bench meant there was a continuous rolling sub situation and what seemed often to be a minimum of 13 players on the pitch for them at any one time.

      • Sundays match report for the match against Western Suburbs is summed up using imagery, as most of my written text would most likely have been censored. For those of you who did not participate at the pictionary world champs.[Down 2, 10 Men after, 5 minutes = A POUNDING]It was a tough ask of the ten players left on the pitch to hold a bottom placed team who were desperate for points, and at home for

      • BNU 16 2 v Karori Kittenz 7 Karori were certainly no pussies, demonstrating deadly skills on the counter attack on a hard McAllister Park pitch. With five changes to the lineup, BNU were again guilty of a sluggish start and found themselves chasing the game from as early as the tenth minute. Despite controlling the game in midfield for the majority of the first half, the home side went in at the b

      • North Wellington 0-0 BNU Thirds Scoreless draw at Alex Moore Just like Aretha Franklin, all Capital Football are after this year is a little bit of R-E-S-P-E-C-T, and for us this means lining up in formation Champions League style, applauding the crowd (and his obligatory dog) and shaking hands with the opposition prior to kick-off. So bemused were we with our new pre-match routine the game was al

    • BNU Womens 1st v University 12/04/2009
      • Brooklyn (1); University (1) Brooklyn girls arrived at Wakefield Park on Easter Sunday with keenness and fervour.   What more could make you happy, a beautiful blue sky day, a game of soccer and a holiday the next day.  Once the girls were kitted up, warmed up, and knew our positions, we were given the “grand walk on the pitch” drill by Bronwyn.  The young University girls looked less than impress

    • BNU Thirds v Eastbourne 11/4/09
      • BNU Thirds 2 – 3 Eastbourne Eastbourne at home saw us playing at the loveable Happy Valley for the first time this season, the rock hard playing surface together with the familiar gusting northerly meant conditions played a part in the entertaining, although ultimately disappointing 3-2 loss. The decision to battle the wind and sun in the first half looked to have paid off as we finished the half

      • Top of the table clash (BNU 2 – Naenae 3) The BNU Ladies B Team were sadly denied their second win of the season when they stepped up for their top of the table clash with Naenae… The first half was tough going with the ball going from end to end and chances missed by both teams.  A scary defensive moment saw Toni showing excellent promise by blocking a low, hard ball that was well on the way to t

    • Public Service 11/4/2009
      • Brooklyn Northern Public Servants first home game of the season started well - aided by the ferocious wind at Happy Valley, they laid siege to the Karori goal for much of the first half. Unfortunately the football gods were on Karori's side, who despite barely leaving their own half for the first forty-five minutes, took the lead on the stroke of half-time after a mistimed back-pass. Brooklyn did

    • Premier v Stop Out - 13/04/09 - W 2-0
      • Easter Monday came around all too quick for my liking, considering only 48 hours prior we'd had a physical encounter against a youthful Lower Hutt side. Still, it's the same for both sides, and both Stop Out and Island Bay turned up at Hutt Park Raceway determined to put in a good showing despite the windy weather. We started in to the wind, and tried to play Football by keeping the ball on the dec

    • BNU Div 16 v Porirua City - 11/4/09
      • BNU 2 - Porirua City 5 BNU came up against a youthful and skilled Porirua City side at Adventure Park, eventually going down by 2-5 scoreline. In an open, attacking first half BNU found themselves 3 goals down after half an hour but, as last week, fought back well with a strike from John Lee after a determined run into the box and a deft near-post header from Carl Roberts after a concerted period

    • Seconds v Kapiti Coast United - 11/4/09
      • BNU Seconds 0 - Kapiti Coast United 3 It was a lovely day for football. The Kapiti Coast had put on a nice day, Weka park was in good nick and the Second team looked strong. However, we got off to a pretty slow start and Kapiti were putting on the pressure by playing simple through-ball football. And their strategy worked. We got caught out by not clearing the ball well enough and Kapiti put one p

      • Petone 0 – 2 BNU Thirds First game of the season saw us playing at the “home of football”, no not Wembley, it turns out that the home of football is actually Memorial Park, Petone.  Although new opposition for us, Petone having been relegated down from Capital 3, their goalkeeper seemed strangely familiar. It struck me towards the end of the game (I obviously had too much time on my hands with us

    • Masters 1 v Seatoun 4/4/09
      • The dawn of a season beckoned on the Masters team with a discovery that we had been promoted to the A division. With despair amongst the team, a letter of protest was sent off to Capital Football asking why the team that finished second was promoted and the team that finished first for the last two seasons was remaining in Division B. As with Capital Football, the letter was not even acknowledged.
