    • SAREX Makara South Coast Exercise July 26-27 2008
      • This was a weekend SAREX designed to test comms on the South Coast, as well as the ability of the teams to handle the conditions! And with the "10 Year Storm" going on, it was a test. A lot of work had gone in over the week before to get the new cross band repeaters built, as you would have read in Q-Bit. These were installed on Mt Misery on the Saturday morning. The base was set up and the teams dispatched. We did a HF radio test with a Pulsar, and learnt a few things about getting wet. read more

    • Quartz hill is off the air
      • The Quartz Hill site is now closed for major amateur radio activity while a wind generation farm is under construction there. The activities log and the provision to make bookings have therefore been suspended. We are hopeful that we will be able to return to the site and re-establish the station once the wind farm is in operation.

    • Open day - be there!
      • There will be an open day at Quartz Hill for supporters, all radio amateurs, SWLs, their families and friends, on Sunday 4 February 2007 - from 11:00 am onwards. You will be able to view the Quartz Hill facilities. This may be your last chance to see this fabulous facility in its current form as it is likely that we will have to dismantle antenna infrastructure over the coming year (to make way for the wind farm project).

    • Wind damage at Quartz Hill
      • Wellington was battered by a wild storm with severe northerly winds on Sunday night 11 June 2006. Bob ZL2AMI was at Quartz Hill during the storm, participating in the ANARTS RTTY contest. He reports that wind was the strongest that has experienced at the station. Evidently the wind was gusting up to 145 km/hr at Mt KauKau, which is only a few kilometres away from Quartz Hill.
