An alternative take on the race for the Mayoralty…

Meet the Candidates – Great turnout
- Newtown Residents' Association
- A great turnout, variously estimated between 120 and 140 locals to hear the Mayoral and Southern ward candidates speak at St Anne’s Hall, despite vile weather. Thanks in particualr to Peter Frater for organising the event and various association members who assisted on the night. Thanks also to Vanessa Rushton for the pic.

Councillor Morrison’s call centre
- Wellington Scoop
- So soon after his self-appointed stint as Peter Jackson’s spokesperson, John Morrison yesterday emerged as a spokesperson for a recently-arrived Wellington call centre. His DomPost interview last week “confirming plans” for a Lord of the Rings museum in the CBD brought a quick denial from Peter Jackson that “nothing is decided or resolved.” It seemed Councillor Morrison was trying to take credit for someone else’s project – and one that had not yet taken shape.

Gridlock for Wellington? You betcha
- Iona Pannett
- Environmentalists have long argued that building more roads induces traffic so it is great to see Opus finally acknowledging this fact. Opus were the builders of the Inner City Bypass. We made this argument but unfortunately lost it in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2013, we finally may be starting to win the argument. Photo courtesy of stuff.co.nz

Cenotaph makeover
- Iona Pannett
- Good to announce plans to make over the area around the Cenotaph. The Council has made a long term commitment to enhancing Wellington's status as the capital. Opening up this dark and inaccessible area will be a big contributor to that commitment. Photo courtesy of Wellington City Council
