Things are getting surreal at Te Papa
- The Wellingtonista
- We might be stuck in New Zealand for a while, but that doesn’t mean the world can’t come to us (especially if they’re rich, apparently). That’s the cool thing about the new exhibition Surrealist Art: Masterpieces from Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen He Toi Pohewa: He Toi Marupō o Muhiama o Boijmans Van Beuningen. You’ll get a slice of Europe last century and get to get out of the wind of Wellington all at the same time.

Ērthe
- Lōemis
- We are delighted to present Ērthe, an elemental effigy designed and built almost entirely out of discarded materials by Luke Scott, with Leda Farrow and an army of helpers. You can visit Ērthe daily and write notes to it (for example something you wish to dispel or happen in the future). These notes will go up in flames on the night of the winter solstice, June 21, as part of our annual Winter Solstice Procession.

Cellar Door
- Black Coffee
- <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > Taxidermy and photography both exist as a state of preservation of the subject, denying organic decay in a disjointed modernity, a concept that Ben Klocek and Antoinette Ratcliffe emulate in their show Cellar Door. Crepuscular and discarded, the specimens in their photographs take on new flesh in composition, and in their sentience. Antoinette’s practice explores the anthropomorphic through her use of a variety of media, including her own taxidermy, where the animals find themselves in relationships created out of circumstance. This photographic series examines the chronotope allegory between taxidermy and the captured image. Exploring the connection between the physical and the subconscious, Ben constructs situational realities between taxidermy, found spaces and objects. In his use of vibrant and sometimes conflicting colour palettes, Ben creates limbic resonance between the subject, the artist and the viewer. @AntoinetteRatcliffe thesickbay.com @klocek.ben @Ben Klocek Illustration

Sensory experience wows at Pātaka
- Porirua City Council
- If you love cinema, dance, music and theatre, come and savour them all at once in the senses-awakening Where Memories Sleep, currently showing at Pātaka, which comes with live shows. The installation is a stunning cine-dance music production exploring the imagined Antarctic legend of Aurora, created by photographer and video artist Jason O’Hara and musician Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots, Little Bushman). The work is the result of a 2016 trip to Scott Base where the pair captured a wealth of images and sound recordings.
