The development of Chaffers Dock may be dragging on interminably (the ground floor shops and public area have been "just about to open" since last year), but there's recently been a very welcome little bit of progress. The long-promised public viewing platform on the roof is finally open, and it provides wonderful elevated views of the harbour, city and Waitangi Park.
There's been an exciting late addition to the programme for Wellington Architecture Week. The old High Court Building on Stout St, which is due to be renovated as part of the new Supreme Court complex, will be open this Sunday from 10am to 1pm.
The first major demolition stage of the massive Chews Lane project is starting as I write. Thus far, work has been limited to removing the "temporary" tin shed on Victoria St and refurbishing the heritage buildings, with generally excellent results.
