    • Deco delights
      • The development of Chaffers Dock may be dragging on interminably (the ground floor shops and public area have been "just about to open" since last year), but there's recently been a very welcome little bit of progress. The long-promised public viewing platform on the roof is finally open, and it provides wonderful elevated views of the harbour, city and Waitangi Park.

    • Rogaine Runs from Lambton Quay
      • A really bizarre feeling starting last night's rogaine in downtown Wellington beside the pubbers, and battling the traffic lights on the outward legs. But of course Tinakori Hill and Ngaio Gorge are only minutes away. The event run out of the Norsewear shop on Lambton Quay by adventure racing "Team Norsewear" was won by Bill Edwards in spite of a fading headlamp.

    • Nicked!
      • The above piece of artwork is part of a series entitled Eye Candy and was skilfully hand painted by resident Wellington artist, Brad Williams aka Slope, and until sometime during the 31st of October, was on display at (best late nite venue nominee) Sandwiches. On which date it was nicked - during daylight hours - and both the Sandwiches lads and Slope are understandably upset.

    • Electro Oh How We Love You
      • Some of us have missed out on Peaches tickets AND found ourselves too skint for Bill Bailey at the St James tonight. Le Sigh. Le Big Sigh. Fortunately solace can be found at Mighty Mighty tonight in the arms of some sweet, sweet electro. NZ based producers, DJs and live performance will be on hand to pound away that pain.

    • Design for the sun
      • Following on from the previous post, where we had observed how good Wellington can get on a nice day (not so good today, unfortunately), there were a few photos left over that we just had to use. There seems to be a few simple principles at work here for successful public space design in general, but throughout the waterfront especially.

    • Disappearing hooks, or not?
      • More news from the squid tank. This morning I caught up with Robert Clendon the conservator who is looking after the work on the squid. Over the past few weeks we’ve been a bit concerned about the hooks on the tentacles and the arms. It looked as though the hooks could be disappearing. Not something we wanted to [...]

    • A new giant squid specimen!
      • A three-metre giant squid specimen washed up on a beach on Wellington’s South Coast yesterday (2nd April). In comparison with our colossal squid it’s a bit small, but because it’s small it’s interesting! Find out about the difference between Colossal and Giant squid. The squid was found in shallow water by Alana Spragg and her daughter Bella [...]

    • You're fly-erred
      • Plenty of Wellingtonians would have spat out their flat whites on Saturday morning when the Dom Post cover revealed that our old friend Terry Serepisos is going to host New Zealand's version of The Apprentice. As I'm sure you're all aware, the American version Donald Trump is famous for putting his name on all sorts of ridiculous things: read more

    • Fields of dreams
      • But as a coach of a Division 7 football team in Brooklyn, its been a frustrating year with the weather. All to often grounds are closed or games are called off. This is understandable, as its better not to cut the grounds up, and miss out on training or playing on those very same grounds for another 2 weeks or more.

    • Junior rep success
      • A huge congratulations to all the players who trialled for both the U11 and U13 teams - Harbour City was well represented and the players all worked hard at the trials - particularly as the trials were at such an unsociable time on a Sunday morning! Thanks also to all the parents who got their children there on time and ready to play.

    • Hello, Kitties
      • You know there's that cat you see on the way to the bus stop - the one that rolls around on the footpath and lets you tickle his belly, and you've nicknamed him Captain Choicepants? Well, that's a neighbourhood cat. Inspired by the Neighbour Cats zines, Petra Jane has created a public Google map of neighbourhood cats around Wellington and beyond.
