      • Karori Park #2, 12. After promising results in recent weeks, we were looking to complete a trifecta of wins against the top 3 teams. 1st place Karori would pose a different threat, difficult to break down and dangerous at set pieces. BNU started the stronger side, quickly settling into our rhythm, knocking the ball around confidently and dominating midfield. There were appeals for a BNU goal after the ball may have crossed the line, a mass of bodies made it difficult for the ref to see and had to wave play on. After 20 minutes of dominance, we fell off the pace a little, inviting Karori back into the game. Karori were awarded a free kick after 27 minutes. They threw a number of players forward and made it count with a strong headed finish to go 1-nil up with their only clear cut chance of the half. We didn't panic and kept at Karori. Paul Clune squeezed home from a tight angle, to equalise seconds before the break. 1-1 at half time.

      • The management and trustees of the Strathmore Park Community Centre Trust (SPCCT) have made key decisions about how the two community centres in Strathmore Park will operate in the COVID-19 Protection Framework (commonly known as the Traffic Light system). From 3 December 2021, the My Vaccine Pass will be required for anyone entering the Strathmore Park or Raukawa Community Centres during the usual hours of operation by SPCCT staff.

There is a field of 69 and they will be teeing off from the 1st and 10th tees from 7.30am each day.   Club members will be able to use the course after the field. Harrison Tew® will run specialised training with senior management, our staff and students in the lead up to a lock down exercise, which will occur on Monday 9 April.  The exercise will be as real-life as possible, which will mean that parents/families will receive notification by way of text, WHS app and/or email.  The information passed will emphasise that this is an exercise/practice and will explain that all updated information will then be posted on the school website. In a genuine incident, should you hear of a lock down at the school, can we please ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond.  Your presence at, or contact with the school may make it more difficult for us to manage the situation, and could potentially & place your children and in fact yourselves at risk.  What you need to do now Prior to this exercise, please check that your contact details (mobile phone numbers and email & addresses) are current. This will be the information we use to reach you should an emergency occur at the school. You can do this by checking your details through the parent portal [portal.whs.school.nz] and choosing ‘Details’. Download the WHS App today via Google Play store (Android) or iTunes app store (Apple) Reminders: Earthquake / school closure  This is a good time to encourage you to make or review your family plan around other emergencies, such as earthquakes.  You may find ‘How to get ready’ is a helpful resource. A family plan is particularly important for students who travel to school from out of zone as their transport routes may be cut off.  If a decision is made to close school, for any reason, we will keep our year 9 and 10 students with us until a known adult can come and collect them from the school field.   The only adults permitted to collect a student will be the caregivers and emergency contacts that we have recorded.  We will only release our year 11, 12 and 13 students when it has been declared safe to do so. Please ensure that a discussion about safe routes to get home are part of your family plan.     • Phoenix spreading Christmas cheer (18/12/08)
      • The Children’s wards got a special visit today from Wellington’s A-League soccer team The Phoenix. It was the team’s first Christmas visit to the Children’s wards (18 and 19). Owner Terry Serepisos said because the players had such a huge following amongst children the team wanted to pay a special visit. “This is a way to give something back to the kids because the Phoenix is all about getting kids involved.”

      • Having trained through the off season, and pre-season proper kicking off in early January, the BNU men's first team were keen to trade hurdles, ladders and running shoes for boots, game day and some serious opposition. The 2013 Hilton Petone tournament certainly gave us the opportunity to put our plans into practice. Our group consisted of our neighbours - Island Bay, North Wellington under 19's and our bogey team of last season, Kapiti Coast United.

Mihi nui kia <> First event Wednesday, at Whitireia Welcome back to another year of orienteering! We’re kicking things off this Wednesday with our afterwork sprints, part of our College Sport Wellington (CSW) Series, which will be followed by forest and farm orienteering in March. Although CSW events are aimed at getting school students orienteering, don’t be put off by the name—courses are open to everyone, and we’d love to see you there. A big thank you to our course planner, Ali Power, and our controller, Sarah O’Sullivan, for knocking our first sprint into shape at Whitireia Campus in Porirua. AGM highlights Congratulations to Morag McLellan, who took out the Endeavour Cup for development, and to Helen Hughes for receiving the Fortune Cup for outstanding service to the club! Beverley Holder was welcomed as the new President of Orienteering Wellington, taking over from Paul Teesdale-Spittle, who has dedicated many years to leading the club. Beverley has been deeply involved, most recently helping steer a successful Oceania organising committee. Draft minutes from the AGM 2024 will soon be available on the website Morag McLellan Helen Hughes Wellington makes waves at Oceania Oceania was a fantastic event, with over 700 orienteers from both sides of the Tasman and further enjoying beautiful courses at Massey University (sprint) and Santoft forest maps of Koitiata (middle), Knottingly (long), and Parewanui (relay). Orienteering Wellington members achieved some impressive results, especially Lizzie Ingham, who reigned supreme by taking first in Women’s 21E for the Sprint, Middle, and Long events. Jake McLellan also shone with a second place in M20E Sprint and Long courses, and both he and Rachel Baker were part of the New Zealand junior teams that won their Trans-Tasman relay competitions. Orienteering Wellington can be proud of hosting a brilliant event for all. A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers, particularly Helen Hughes, who wrangled the volunteers to ensure everything ran seamlessly each day. 2025 subscriptions now due Members attending the AGM resolved to raise subscriptions by 20% to cover Orienteering New Zealand levies—our first increase in quite some time!       • The National Women’s Under 19 Championships are being played at the Waikanae Golf Club on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of September. Top quality golf will be able to be watched each day. Come along and support the competitors. Tee times from 7.30am each day. One round each day. The Course will be open for members and visitors to play from 11.40am each day on both the 1st and 10th tees. Members should book via the internet booking system.

      • It’s less than 2 weeks till The Wellington round of the New Zealand International Film Festival Typical Wellington behaviour at this time often includes - Courtenay Place place being full during daylight hours - people taking no lunch breaks to allow for an extra long lunch break to catch a film - taking a day off work to see 4 films in a row - Taking 2 weeks off work to spend the time in a darkened cinema - Catching up with people you only see once a year at film festival - taking mini trips to other Cities just to see films you missed in Wellington - excessive listening to the Rancho Notorious podcast to see what Dan or Kailey think of a film or special watching tips - running between the Paramount and the Embassy to catch a film - eating while standing in line for a film - trying to guess which film will come back when caught in a timetable dilemma   In light of what will be a wonderful 2 weeks in Wellington, here’s our personal tips for what to catch during the festival. Don’t wait for a film to  return, for Video on Demand. nothing beats the big screen and nothing beats a big screen filled with fellow film fans, even worse the returning film might be something edited down for timing or some other stupid reason. Heather C   Aunty and the Star People – inspiring, uplifting and she’s a local. Beauty and the Beast – one of the great original classic fairytales which looks to have amazing detail.. Beloved Sisters – for the emotion and passion of two centuries prior.   Tom Beard REALITi: While NZ doesn’t have a stellar track record for science fiction movies, Chad Taylor and Jonathan King make an intriguing team that should bring dark, literate menace to this existential dystopian thriller. Particle Fever: Themes don’t come much bigger than the nature and fate of the universe, so this documentary about the Large Hadron Collider and the search for the Higgs boson should appeal to more than just physics junkies. Goodbye to Language 3D: Godard infamously said that “a film should have a beginning, a middle and an end but not necessarily in that order”. He continues to throw out the rules, not just for the 3D technology normally reserved for popcorn fodder, but for language itself. Tom Ackroyd Boyhood. Because of the idea of the lead aging from 6 to 18 over the course of the story, and because it’s a Richard Linklater picture. Hard to Be a God. Never heard of the director but the NZIFF write-up is irresistible. Under the Skin. Jonathan Glazer’s long-evolving back catalogue points to him eventually doing something extraordinary and I’m hoping this is it.   Runner-up:  Is the Man Who is Tall Happy? I’m a Michel Gondry nut. He can do no wrong. I actually have a crush on him. Sue Tyler The Tale of The Princess Kaguya – for what is film festival without a Studio Ghibli film National Gallery – behind the scenes at the national gallery, it looks like all the things i crave in a documentary The Lady from Shanghai - I love the old restored films that are brought back every year. I still remember the year Rear Window played at The Embassy and despite having seen that film on video many of times it blew my mind.     • It’s a Renters World, and We’re…Not Living in it?
      • You may have seen headlines telling you that Wellington rental prices are dropping, that it’s a renter’s market, or that with the exodus of public service workers from the capital, landlords are getting desperate. To some extent, that is true, and to a greater extent, it’s not. Salient asked Trade Me about the current perceptions of the rental market. Year on year, the asking price for a property in Wellington was down 2.9%, and since September 2024, Trade Me saw a 28% increase in the number of rental listings in the city. These figures might lead you to believe that rents are dropping. Well, they’re not (in most places). Between December 2024 and January 2025, the median rental price went from $650 to $675 according to Trade Me’s data.

The day has been filled with assemblies, reminiscing, excitement, tears and sentiment. To all our seniors, we wish you all the best, whether you are sitting NCEA exams or joining the workforce, whether you are leaving us or returning to WHS in 2020.        Level 3 Art Portfolio exhibition The Level 3 Art Portfolio exhibition is happening in the Art department,  D block, Monday 4 November, 12pm – 5.45pm and Tuesday 4 November 9am-5pm. All welcome. Japan exchange students’ farewell Saaya Nakahara and Saki Sasakawa have been attending WHS since the end of August as part of their exchange from Osaki Kasei, WHS’s sister school in Japan. Below are some of the memories of their experience here. We arrived in NZ on August 30. We have had many experiences in just 2 months. We went to the Climate Change strike on 27 September. We have never been to a strike, so we were surprised that there were so many people. It was a good experience because we cannot join a big event like this in Sapporo. Our most exciting experience was the Ball. We do not have an event like this in Japan. This was the first time for us to go to a dance party. We took a lot of pictures with our friends in the photo booth. Our favourite photo was taken with our year 13 Japanese classmates and Grace. Thank you for giving us wonderful memories!!! Achievements NCEA Art folio exhibitions Folios were exhibited on two Fridays this term showcasing the enormous efforts students have put into their artmaking this year. Many friends parents and staff visited the exhibitions.       Rowing regatta success WHS Rowing have completed in their first regatta of the season: the Queen’s cup regatta. The regatta was held over a 1000m course with all rowers competing to a high level despite the cold and windy conditions. The next race will be on 2 November and is the Norton Cup Regatta.      Floorball  Former WHS student Marie Sundin is transferring from Wellington Floorball Club to Swedish IBF Falun. Last month the International Floorball Federation picked Marie as one of the top three international transfers. Congratulations Marie!
