Eye of the Fish / July 2021
We are a fledgling blog that was created to continue the legacy of Tom Beard’s superb WellUrban. Our aim is to further discourse on Wellington’s urban environment, as well to as report on the other aspects of life in the capital. Tom has set certainly high standards for us, and we wish him all the best in his new position.

Station to Station
- Eye of the Fish
- Wellington’s main (only?) central Railway Station has been getting a lot of press recently, mostly over the intransigence of the Heritage NZ lobby who are, to be honest, being silly over the heritage of this building. They’ve only just today approved the installation of a pedestrian ramp out the front doors – the disabled have been forced to use the side door for the last several decades. They’re sitting on the approval of installation of the Snapper ticketing terminals because they don’t like the colour. KiwiRail: do it anyway. It needs to be a living piece of heritage, adapting and changing to the times – not preserved in aspic (whatever aspic is).

Cobham Drive
- Eye of the Fish
- You may already be aware of this world-breaking event, but in case you are not, here’s the news: LGWM have actually made a decision! Of course, now having made a decision, they now want to ask us our opinion on their momentous decision. So, this post, the topic of discussion is all about the proposed Cobham Drive crossing. Seeing as their method of discussion is all behind closed doors (they are calling for submissions by the end of July), I though that it might be more useful to have some discussion in public, and the Eye of the Fish seems to be a good place to discuss that.
