BNU Reserves vs North Wellington 23/5/09
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- BNU reserves travelled to Alex Moore Park in Johnsonville on Saturday for the season's return fixture against North Wellington. We'd drawn 1-1 at Wakefield in the first game of the season and we were determined to do our best to better the result. We arrived for the 2:30 kickoff amidst a not so pleasant southerly storm, with BNU's own weatherman Rob Kerr predicting conditions to worsen. We started

- BNU16 3 v UH Slayers 1 - John Lee cuts down Slayers The omens were not good for this fixture at the Velodrome on a wild Wellington Saturday. BNU were missing several key senior squad members through injury, plus influential, but crook, midfielder Karl Roberts. Although perfectly playable at the start, the pitch soon turned into the predictable swamp through the centre, hampering the home team’s at

The French are talking about us
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- The internet is an amazing place. And BNU is an amazing club. And when these two collide beautiful things happen. Like this morning when I stumbled across this gem - in french and translated via Google: You probably wonder what happened to the football career of Nordine? I went to training with the idea that the first team from Brooklyn would be a much higher level than mine. Moreover they play i

BNU Thirds v University 16/5/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- Uni Scarfies 5-0 BNU Thirds - 16/5/09 Humiliating thrashing instead of a student bashing This season we’ve had more reshuffling at the back than Blanket man with a bout of piles – and for the third game on the bounce we had a new keeper between the sticks. This time Phil donning the gloves in the first half and Robert having a crack in the second half. Not that we’re using that as an excuse for lo

BNU Reserves v Upper Hutt City 16/5/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- BNU Reserves 1 - Upper Hutt City 2 Wakefield park was in pretty good nick after all the rain during the week. The windy weather was threatening but held off until after our game. BNU fielded a good competitive team and dominated the beginning of the first half. We created chances and we're unluck not to score on several attacking pieces. Late in the first half Upper Hutt put on the pressure and we

Womens B v North Wellington 17/5/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- BNU lose at a blustery Wakefield (BNU 0 – North Wellington 3) Oh dear… BNU ladies’ second team were runners up this weekend, coming off a blustery pitch on the wrong end of a 3-0 score line. But, in our defence, we were playing against the most experienced team in the division and they are definitely the team to beat (maybe next time???). So, where did it all go wrong? Apparently North Wellingto

- Olympic 2 - 4 BNU16 BNU took their recent upturn in form into a much tougher game against Olympic at Miramar, coming out victorious by 4-2, in an excellent performance. The win was especially sweet as the team had to battle against a string of poor refereeing decisions and a series of callous challenges on players in promising attacking situations. To their credit BNU by and large (maybe with the e

BNU Womens 2nd Team 08/05/2009

- Why, oh why did BNU lose to Naenae…? (Naenae 4 – BNU 0) It had to happen one day… and BNU ladies’ second team came crashing down to earth this week with a 4-0 drubbing from Naenae – urgh. Things were against us from the beginning when we had to don our white away kit to prevent confusion. Apparently we decided to do this to stop us accidentally passing the ball to the wrong team. But truth be t

- BNU Thirds 2-1 Wainui - Back into the fray at Titahi BayGiven the prolonged absence of our regular keeper, the gaffer organised for a replacement for this weeks game against Wainui’s 2nd team. Not only is Tony a experienced keeper whose dominating performance helped organise the back four as well see him pull off a number of important saves; more importantly it adds another Crystal Palace fan to t

- Marist 5-2 BNU Thirds All wrong at Cobham Mmm – consistency is usually considered a good thing, but 2 consecutive matches conceding 5 goals is possibly not ideal. This, in stark contrast to last week, was a defeat brought almost entirely upon ourselves. It all started with an unlucky deflection from our emergency stand-in keeper, the ball coming off Mick and then the post to land right in front of

- BNU ‘coast’ through with a 3-1 win over Kapiti (Kapiti 1 – BNU 3) The Brooklyn ladies’ second team started off the week very well with two highly placed teams in the pub quiz. It is worthy of mention that neither of the teams exceeded the maximum number of competitors – unlike The Brazilians (aka The Thirds) who appeared to think that 8 players is the same as 5… hmmm ;-) But, we’re not bitter, an
