Kirk's Sale, now on

- WellUrban probably sums up the effect of the annual Kirk's Sale best when he writes... Expect worse than usual queues of SUVs between Karori and Lambton Quay this morning: the Annual Kirks sale is on.

- Last year's spectacular propagation (according to ZL6QH contest lore) clearly didn't eventuate this year. Summer static was a problem at times, and our score is down 50% of last year's.

Wellington Summer Afterwork Rogaine Series Results
- Wellington Orienteering Association
- After a bad weather start the weather improved for a while then got steadily windier. The 52 competitors reported a cryptic course with a couple of misplaced controls. Many competitors completed the diving pool control (adjacent to the start at Keith Spry Swimming Pool) but suggested that with fine weather it could have been an excellent control.

Akatarawa Attack
- Wellington Orienteering Association
- 80 mountainbikers attacked the Akatarawas on Saturday, armed only with a map. And 78 emerged more or less unscathed, close to the 4 or 8 hours each team had chosen for their battle with the rugged bush area between Upper Hutt and Kapiti. The final team of 2 pulled into the base at the end of Bulls Run Road three and a half hours late - battered but unbowed.

- January 28 until February 11. And listen up folks, it’s the Year of the Dog! What we’re particularly looking forward to is the Asian Market (11am-3pm) at the Events Centre on the waterfront on Festival Day (Feb 11). The food! The crowds! But mostly the food.

2006 annual summer open day and BBQ
- ZL6QH Quartz Hill User Group
- The 2006 annual summer open day and BBQ was held on 15 January. Quartz Hill lived up to its reputation and turned on a brisk and cool northerly wind, so it was not the best day for bathing in the sun! Howver this did not deter 27 people, including four children, who made the pilgramage to the event.

Run No. 1584: Hine Road carpark, Wainuiomata
- Wellington Hash House Harriers
- The sun shone bright and clear in the late afternoon as the hardy and intrepid WHHH'ers headed out to Wainui for the second run of 2006. After the customary passport check at the top of Wainui hill and the fortunately gentle rubber glove investigations from customs meant that most arrived in time and well refreshed.

Run No. 1583: The dell, Botanical Gardens

- A damn fine turnout for the first run of the 2006 year, with about 15 of us I seem to remember. And to boot, the howling gales of the morning had abated and it was a fine balmy Wellington summer evening.
