    • Black Cat Friday!
      •   This Friday 13th April, Wellington SPCA is spreading the word that black cats & kittens are good luck! Our aim is to adopt as many cats and kittens from the overflowing Newtown and Kapiti centres as we can, so we’ll be offering some great incentives to help felines (of all ages and colours) find a loving home with a new family.

    • Learning new skills as a volunteer
      • Cameron works in the puppy run both on weekdays and weekends – sometimes he can be found helping out up to four days a week at our Newtown animal centre!! Cameron has recently gone through a training session with other volunteers, upskilling him and enabling him to take on the role of volunteer canine assistant.

      • With Easter and the school holidays just around the corner, our Animal Crew have put together some cool activities to keep any animal-loving kid busy! Spaces are limited and are filling up fast, so make sure you don’t miss out – book your place today! Easter Extravaganza Animal Night When: Friday 15th April Time: 5:30pm to 7:30pm Where: Newtown animal centre Kids aged 6 to 16 years are invited to come along and learn all about bunnies and how to care for them. There will be lots of fun activities including bunny massage, chocolate making, egg decorating and more! Kids get to take home their own picture of them with their favourite bunny. This group is limited to 15 children so bookings are essential. Click HERE to register your child online. School Holiday Programme When: Monday 18th April Time: 9am to 12pm Where: Newtown animal centre Kids can come along to learn about dog safety, work on their dog handling skills, practice training dogs and make some cool dog toys and crafts. School Holiday Programme When: Tuesday 19th April Time: 2pm to 5pm Where: Newtown animal centre Kids can come along to learn about the work of the SPCA, about the animals we help and about different animal careers. We will have some hands on fun behind the scenes, while learning about the role of the SPCA in our community. This group is limited to 15 children so bookings are essential.     • Garage sale this weekend
      • We don’t just need to find homes for heaps of amimals – we’ve also collected a whole heap of bits and bobs, bric-a-brac and pet paraphernalia that we need to find homes for too! So this Saturday 22nd January from 8am to 12pm, show us your support and come down to our Newtown animal centre for our first-ever garage sale.

    • Summer fun!
      • Wellington SPCA’s school holiday programme is a cool way for kids to spend the long summer holiday, learning all about animals and getting up close and personal with some of our very cute furry friends! We have five different events on offer throughout January for kids aged from 5 to 16 years - with heaps of activities and loads of time to spend with some special SPCA animals! But you need to get in quick – spaces are limited. We are offering a special $5 discount for bookings made before 17 December.     • Labour weekend opening times
      • Our Newtown animal centre is open as usual this Saturday and Sunday (23 and 24 October). On Monday 25 October it will be open  from 10am to 4pm for adoptions and retail only. Our Waikanae animal centre will be open as usual from Saturday to Monday. A full list of our normal opening times are available here.

    • Get a behind-the-scenes look
      • World Animal Day on 4 October is the international day for animals! It’s a day: to celebrate animal life in all its forms   to celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom   to acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives to acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives To celebrate World Animal Day we are offering free shelter tours for the entire month of October. The tours will take place at our Newtown animal centre and it’s a great opportunity to for anyone interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look into what we do, learn more about Wellington SPCA and of course, spend some time with our animals.       • The school holidays are just around the corner and Wellington SPCA’s Kid’s Club has the perfect way for any animal-mad kid to fill their holiday-time! We are going to be holding our first-ever school holiday programme and places are available to book now! The holiday programme will be held at our Newtown animal centre, so there’ll be heaps of activities and games as well as plenty of chance to meet some of the animals we are caring for.     • It’s time for a spring clean
      • Our Newtown animal centre is in dire need of a spruce-up! We’d love to brighten up our cat and dog runs, freshen up the rabbit hutches and clean up the cat houses. So, we’re on the hunt for donations of paint – unwanted tester pots, half tins, full tins - whatever you can spare will be gratefully received. You can drop in your donations to eitjer one of our animal centres anytime. Thank you!!
