It's only the second time I've seen Achilles Botes perform live, but his songs seem familiar already. He's definitely one of the more interesting solo acts, with his loop and various other pedals, slide and layered rhythms.

It was a real family affair at Happy on Thursday, with Tim Beals and his sister Holly, and then Johnny Corker performing with his partner Julie Thompson. Some of the crowd at ValveSolid rock with an almost operatic vocal style is how I would attempt to describe Riverblind in one sentence. Lead singer/guitarist Dave Kempton has an incredibly powerful, smooth and melodic voice. Backed up with solid drums from Tim Whitta, and Dan Simpson throwing himself around the stage with his 6 string bass, these guys are a surprisingly powerful live act.
ePeter Baillie, the esteemed master of Acoustic Lounge, took the stage on Wednesday for an entertaining slot. I've known Peter since I first moved to Wellington, and this is, incredibly, the first time I've seen him play. Peter has strong songs, and a very entertaining stage manner.
