Toxic algae infestation has now spread to the Wainuiomata River. The algae has been widespread in the Hutt River system over the past few weeks and is blamed for the deaths of at least four dogs. The Wainuiomata and Hutt Rivers have separate catchments.
The Hutt City Council is warning Hutt Valley residents over the weekend that the toxic algal bloom in the Hutt River is not restricted to the Hutt River itself.
The Greater Wellington Regional Council issued a warning on Wednesday of high toxin levels in Hutt River algae. It has now killed at least two dogs.
