pop along to the bookfair
- The Wellingtonista
- The DCM Book Fair is on this weekend at the TSB Arena on Wellington's Queens Wharf. On sale will be books, magazines, records, CDs, puzzles, stamps, artworks and DVDs. I was one of their helpers in setting up books this afternoon and i can confirm there are some supremly awesome bargains to be had. Plus you can feel smug about doing good things. The Book Fair raises many valuable dollars towards DCM's work with those who struggle in the city. and that can never be a bad thing.

Cinephilia: Opening This Week
- The Wellingtonista
- A fairly insane week for new releases is headed by NZ horror-feature The Tattooist, about Samoan tattoos that take on a life of their own and turn their owners into blood-thirsty zombies - or something like that: Readings and Sky City Queensgate only.

Phoenix in Thriller at Stadium
- The Wellingtonista
- Fourteen and half thousand of us watched the Phoenix get their A-League campaign under way with a thrilling 2-2 draw at Westpac stadium this afternoon. An estimated (by myself and a couple of other self-appointed experts) couple of thousand more were stuck in queues for the first quarter and gave up and went home.

Phoenix Pre-Season Campaign Returns to Wellington
- The Wellingtonista
- An unanticipated great result in Melbourne on Saturday night has kept the Phoenix in the hunt for early scalps and, perhaps more importantly, given them another warm-up game to prepare for the forthcoming A-League campaign.

Mana College v. Wellington College
- The Wellingtonista
- f you're stuck for something to do next Monday night, you could do worse than to head to Porirua Park for the final of Wellington's premier one grade schoolboy rugby competition. The match is to be played between Mana College and Wellington College. As detailed in a story in the Dom Post, Mana has made a dramatic rise through the grades after starting the year in premier two and being promoted mid-season, and to have made it to the final is nigh-on miraculous.

Porcine Holocaust
- The Wellingtonista
- When it comes down to living the good life, you don't have to spend up large. One of my favourite things about having been a dishpig or assorted-kitchen odd-body for a number of years is that you soon learn that the most expensive foods are often the crappyest.

Cinephilia: Opening This Week
- The Wellingtonista
- Strange things are afoot concerning the release of the film License to Wed (the trailer for which has been torturing audiences for weeks). The radio preview was at Readings tonight, they have been trailering it heavily and it's got a start date of Thursday on their web site. But they don't have any sessions listed for Courtenay Central.
