      • At the Wellington City Council Strategy and Policy Committee briefing of December 1 we were shown a computer model of the areas of Wellington that would be flooded by sea level rise as a consequence of global warming. One of the areas that may be impacted is the site of the Indoor Sports Centre. There is no doubt there will be consequences that will be beyond our control even if Wellington were to reduce green house gas emissions.

    • How to protect the Citizens of Wellington

      • Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
      • I've been thinking that Wellington needs a home owners and tenants union to protect the citizens from developers and people who get elected into public office by telling lies and acting in an unethical manner. This union should look after the public interest of the ratepayers and renters of the city. It should have as its mission the informing and protecting the public by its own media. What do you think?

    • Update on save the point / the true cost to the ratepayers
      • 28 Sep 2007
      • Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
      • I'm picking this has cost the ratepayers over 1.5 million dollars so far. This does not include the $7 million non-recourse loan towards building MEC. Opponents have had to meet legal and experts' costs of over $200,000 plus time of the core of volunteers and expert witnesses who gave their time, etc gratis.

    • Save the point has won in the environment court

      • Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
      • In 2000 I began one of my longest political battles . Yesterday it finished in the Environment Court with a ruling that the South Coast is not an appropriate place for an Aquarium. In that time I was supported only by Cr David Zwartz. In 2004 I was joined by Cr Jack Ruben in my opposition. This proposal divided the community. While the political battle was raging and we were overwhelmed by a developer friendly Council, Save Te Rae Kai Hau Point was formed. It was this group that in the end won the day.

    • Te Rae Kai Hau Point - Keep It Natural!

      • This is my seventh year in the battle to Save Te Rae Kai Hau Point. As seven is a special number I see this as a positive year to do things. It has been seven years where many people have played a part in opposing the shameful proposed Marine Education Centre ( Fish Zoo and Cafe) on this wonderful piece of natural heritage.

    • Save Te Rae Kai Hau Point 2007
      • 10 Mar 2007
      • Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
      • The $22 m cost of this project(the fish zoo) continues to escalate due to its proposed location at Te Rae Kai Hau Point and the need to protect the building from the relentless force of the sea. Not only will ratepayers be press-ganged into paying the inevitable shortfalls and ongoing costs, we will lose our precious natural heritage to so called environmentalists.

      • Come and help the Save the Point Group raise funds for their legal battle against the destruction of an iconic headland on our South Coast by joining them for a glass of wine and the chance to view the movie from the Wellington Film Festival everyone is talking about, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
