- There are a number of truly fantastic things about the New Zealand summer… beer, barbeques, swimming, public holidays galore and a multitude of music festivals… but for me, the best part of summer is the oodles of Northern Hemisphere bands that escape their harsh winters to party alongside us…! AND this summer is set to be no different…!The bands that are emptying my purse this summer are: Ponytail (Baltimore) – 4 January, San Francisco BathhouseTelepathe (US) - 5 January, San Francisco BathhouseCamera Obscura (UK) The Books (US) - 17 January, San Francisco BathhouseNeko Case (US) - 21 January, San Francisco BathhouseLe Tour de Trois (France) - 22 January, Mighty MightyThem Crocked Vultures (US) – 29 January, TSB Bank ArenaJoanna Newsom (US) - 31 January, The Paramount TheatreYo La Tengo (US) - 9 February, San Francisco BathhouseThe Pains of Being Pure at Heart (US) - 25 February, San Francisco BathhouseThe Brian Jonestown Massacre (US) – 9 March, Bar BodegaAmanda Palmer (US) - 12 March, Bar Bodega AND, while April is technically not ‘quite’ summer, Wilco will be returning to Wellington to play a gig at the Town Hall that month… giddy…I have my ticket already…. So start stashing some cash, summer is jammed packed with international talent! make sure you get out and check it out. - Karyn
