Aotearoa's Hip Hop Queen is Here
- Texture
- Gentlemen please bow, ladies curtsey – the queen of New Zealand hip-hop has just arrived. Ladi6 is our leading female monarch of rhyme, and she is about to hold court at the San Francisco Bath House this Saturday night. She’s here to celebrate the release of her debut solo album, Time is not much. It’s been 10 long years of touring, winning awards and thrilling crowds, But Ladi6 (Real name Karoline Tamati) is finally taking her place on the MC’s throne she was born to. Her musical beginnings signified what was to come. Karoline originally broke ground as a part of New Zealand’s first, all female hip-hop group Sheelahroc. Her talents saw her rise up firstly with another collective, Verse 2, and later as a solo artist. She has supported the likes of the Roots, wowed festival crowds at the Big Day Out, and charmed media up and down Aotearoa (Plus the Aussies!). Now it’s time for Wellingtonians to see their Queen in the flesh, as she lavishes the Bath House with some of the best soul and hip-hop vocals in the country. Expect a high energy set, with perhaps a few well-known support acts (Scribe, Tyra Hammond and Ricki Gooch all feature on the CD) getting in for a piece of the action. Ladi6 ‘Time is not much’ album release tour: San Francisco Bath House, Saturday 15th of November. -Darren
