    • Smasher rescue Mana Island
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 21/01/2016 - 11:00 - Tue, 02/02/2016 - 13:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  4 Total Volunteer Hours:  1160 Smasher, a 27" Pelin motor launch split its hull coming off a wave as it was leaving Porirua harbour (vicinity of the outer reef). Smasher was in transit with another vessel which stood by her Mana Rescue1 was tasked to support by police The owner was able to put the vessel ashore on Mana Island (just north of shingle point) before MR1 arrived on scene. MR1 was able to confirm that the crew of smasher were safe, then start to render assistance to strip the vessel and secure her on shore and stern to sea.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 21/01/2016 - 00:05 - 20:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  81 This salvage task followed on from the resuce operation of the morning.  MR1 carried a salvage crew and Smashers owner out to the island to do a damage assesment and then repair work. MR1 was standing by the operation for salvage crew safety and sea support. some transfer tasks were carried out for materiel and personel, before Smasher was seaworthy and the boat was able to be pulled (astern) off the shore and the tow line transferred to the bow for a tow into safe water where the boats were rafted up and Smasher was delivered to the liftout dock.
