Down but not out
- Texture
- Late last year, having only been open since the 1st of June, Taranaki St gem Cubita was closed by a fire (which also took out Burger Fuel). At the time, reports indicated it might not reopen due to a bit of an ambiguous insurance situation but I am pleased to tell you that Cubita is now ready for business, nearly four months after it first closed.

Record Store Day

- On Saturday April 19th around the world, independent record stores worldwide are having a combined celebration as part of “Record Store Day”. Participating stores are hosting a day of live music to revel in the beauty that is the local independent record store, and I’m delighted to inform you Wellington’s own Slowboat records on Cuba Street will be joining the party.

Slowboat essential 50
- Texture
- Slowboat records is an absolute Cuba Street institution. I don't actually know how long it has been there, but I can't ever remember it not existing so as far as I know its old. In a good way. Everytime I go past I check out the awesome cardboard cut-out elvis in the window and smile to myself. In an ever changing Cuba Street, Slowboat has been the one constant.

April means... Vodafone Homegrown
- Texture
- As of Friday morning there were only 500 tickets left for Vodafone Homegrown 2008. Considering 800 were snapped up by greedy little monkeys on Thursday, it’s a cinch this is going to be a sell-out. And why wouldn’t it be? Shihad, Kora, Minuit, Salmonella Dub, The Mint chicks, Phoenix Foundation, Tiki, Little Bushman, Concord Dawn, Die! Die! Die! The Black Seeds, Ladi6, and so much more!
