      • It is with great sadness that Swimming Wellington advises the passing of Bill Matson who was a Vice President of FINA, swimmings world governing body. Bill had attended the FINA World Championships in Shanghai. Bill was awarded a Queens Service Medal last year [ONZM] and was awarded the Wellington Sports Life Time Achievement Award for services to Swimming in 2010.

    • Donald David Bond
      • Don Bond was an old-school public servant who had four great loves in his life - his family, friends, rugby club and work, which culminated in his job as director of immigration during the Muldoon and Lange years of the 1980s. Former immigration minister Aussie Malcolm numbered himself among Bondy's legion of fans. On learning of the death of his former director from respiratory and assorted ailments this week, Mr Malcolm recalled the true-blue Wellingtonian as self-effacing and a person who drew no attention to himself.
