Being Independent
- Diane Calvert
- When I first stood for Wellington City council six years ago, I had no ‘campaign’ experience & knew little about the ‘politics’ of the situation. I just wanted to bring my skills and experience to stand up for and represent my community and to put the city first. For me, it was just as important […]

I am standing for Council in the October 2022 local government elections
- Diane Calvert
- I first stood for Council, not for any political reasons, but to help the Council do better at listening and engaging with its local communities. I’m all for getting consensus across a broad range of views and to make sure all Wellingtonians are heard. Now more than ever, this is what this council needs as […]

Khandallah Pool gets a long overdue (60 yrs) investment
- Diane Calvert
- Khandallah Pool is 100 years in 2025. It is has served the city and local area well over the past 97 years but over the past few years has had very little love and attention. This is about to change so that it can see out another hundred years. Extension of hours, some heating, hot […]

Wellington’s 100 million cycleway spin
- Diane Calvert
- WCC recently asked its citizens about its proposed spending over the next 10 years. In addition to its Let’s Get Wellington Moving contribution of $270 million (which includes additional cycleways), it proposed increasing its cycling ways budget to $120m (based on affordability and the ability to deliver).

Sep 2019 - Libraries are Us
- Diane Calvert
- The closure of the central library in March 2019 was a shock to us all. The decision was made swiftly in the best interests of both Council’s staff and visiting public. It was sudden and the grieving process is still underway, from disbelief, sadness, anger, acceptance through to hope. The central library was not just somewhere with books and magazines. It was a meeting place, it was that warm, dry, and calm space welcoming everyone of all ages across our diverse communities – the community living room. It nurtured learning with from young to old with a wide variety of different activities from baby rock ‘n’ rhyme through to photo booths celebrating the style of dress from the suffrage campaign.
