The Wellington Racing Club is to reduce the distance of the iconic Wellington Cup in January, from 3,200 metres (two miles), to 2,400 metres the distance it was run for 50 years up to the early 1940s
The Wellington Racing Club has signed a new commercial partnership agreement with Wellington based Property Company Gillies Group to sponsor their premier Group One fillies’ classic the New Zealand Oaks, which has had a $100,000 stake increase to $400,000 for next year.
