    • Originally called the de Luxe, the Embassy Theatre was one of the grandest picture theatres in New Zealand when it opened on 31 October 1924. Designed to be the primary focus of Courtenay Place, it remains an imposing Wellington landmark as it celebrates its centenary this week.
