      • Normally around this time our lovely Sue would be getting all rapturous about the Downtown Community Ministry's Annual Book Fair, but since she's rather busy, let me just tell you that the fair is happening again this weekend (August 21 & 22) at the TSB Arena, with doors will open from 9am to 4pm each day.

      • Not that it needs any pimping by us, but thought you should know that Wagamama in the Meridian building on the Waterfront is giving away free noodles today from 12 - 2.00pm.  We are talking don buri, udon and beef noodle salad here people, well worth waiting in line for if you have the time.   Behold the line at 11.30am last year....

        • ‘I want to like it, and I do like it but I don't love it.  The food is fresh but needs more fatty goodness, it is a bit like Hollywood fad diet healthy versions of Japanese food. Shinobi for Japanese food, Shinobi all the way.’

      • Anyone remember this guy? The self-same enterprising young man has been seen with an assortment of HI-VIZ clad worker types, some waiters and a guitar stumming up interest in an event rather shockingly entitled: "the Wellington Charity SLAVE AUCTION". Don't worry folks, it is all above board and for a damn good cause.

You may well be wondering, "what the hell is all of this in aid of?" Well gentle reader, today for one day only, the area around the lagoon and Frank Kitts Park is being transformed into a slice of Asia (well about 10 or so slices of Asia) for the Southeast Asian Night Market.

Bring your portable radio and a picnic lunch to celebrate Radio New Zealand and its importance to New Zealand's cultural life. As Sue says over on her Craft2.0 blog: yup it's a protest picnic, which really is an incredibly classy and special way of saying how much you love our national broadcaster.
