      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 30/03/2013 - 12:25 - 16:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  28 Three divers went missing from a group of five during a dive near the south end of Kapiti Island. The dive boat they were with lost track of their bubbles, and they weren't towing a marker buoy, after they were swept away from the dive area via strong currents. They surfaced together later and were swept further away from the area and the boat. Coastguard Mana was dispatched to assist in the search alongside Coastguard Kapiti and Westpac Rescue helicopter. We provided CRV Pelorus and a jetski to work alongside other rescue vessels from Titahi Bay Boating Club and Wellington Rowing Association in monitoring paddlers while they travelled from Whitireia Polytech, under the bridges and then back again.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 10/03/2013 - 16:00 - 20:15 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  4 Total Volunteer Hours:  29 A runabout experienced electrical failure while 6 nautical miles SW of Kapiti Island. They were still able to contact Maritime Radio via their VHF radio and a callout was activated. Coastguard Mana dispatched CRV Trust Porirua Rescue to assist, but by the time they got there another vessel had supplied them with another battery and got them started. TPR escorted both vessels back to Mana. Thanks for continuing to bring public and official recognition to the report, this does need to be indelibly stamped as a part of NZ psychiatric history, and even then it is merely a tip of the iceberg. Redress for wrongs and accountability needs to be available for the past, present and future, just as the United Nations Committee Against Torture report has recommended to the NZ government. Total engine failure, all safety gear on board, good conditions. The initial recovery was performed by a fishing vessel with the tow handed to Coastguard Mana once on-scene.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 12/02/2013 - 20:50 - 23:50 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  33 A 35ft yacht with 3 people on board ran into difficulty when their engine broke down at Cape Jackson, at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound. They then had to make the decision whether to attempt to sail into Marlborough Sounds, sail across Cook Strait and moor up in the lee of Mana Island or attempt to get back into Mana Marina where their berth is. They decided to request assistance from Coastguard Mana to get back into Mana Marina as there was strong wind forecast for later that evening, followed by a southerly the following day.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 05/02/2013 - 09:00 - 10:00 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  5 The Harbour Master requested the assistance of Coastguard Mana to help resolve a situation caused by severe southerly winds overnight.  A catamaran in Porirua Harbour had slipped its anchor and drifted into a trimaran moored nearby.  Both yatchs were caught together and the strong southerlies had caused the trimaran to puncture the cat above the water line. The owners were on board and declined assistance.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 05/02/2013 - 13:00 - 15:00 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  8 A derilect yacht was well down in the water at the pole moorings on the way to Onepoto. It had been filling with rain water over a long period and the severe rain overnight (which caused significant flooding in Porirua) had topped it up even more. The Harbour Master said the owner required assistance to pump out the vessel. Coastguard Mana pumped out 5000 litres of water and the vessel was left floating evenly in the water. Drifting onto nearby rocks on Mana Island, Coastguard Mana were called to assist. They had managed to quickly deploy their anchor to stop them from hitting shore and CRV Trust Porirua Rescue approached and took the yacht under tow.
