      • This festival season the Adam Art Gallery at Victoria University of Wellington presents a suite of four solo exhibitions that offer different takes on photography. Recording people and places, these artists’ projects model strikingly different documentary approaches, offering viewers a provocative opportunity to ask what it means when a camera is used to capture a subject, both in the moment and for posterity. I feel the same being a dancer, working is a night out but i get paid for having fun and get away with being cheekier than i’d ever dare to be outside of the club. Girls need to remember to keep the fantasy alive and keep boundaries strong for a win win experience. Thank you for this blog emily, i start at mermaids next week. If the clubs reviews from the above posts eventuate at least i know dreamgirls is an option also.. i’ve danced for 5yrs. I danced through med school for financial stability and as a release from the pressures from studying medicine. I found that girls have much influence as to the respect they recieve from punters. They also have a choice to react or just let the dickheads be dickheads. The contraversial world of stripping breeds confidence and success if the the woman allows herself to feel empowered and is head strong. I hope that sex workers would feel the same. In some ways i wish i could push my boundaries to have done sex work -u dont have to listen to their bountiful chat.. . ’

Great taste and a perfect bottle, as you say. She sits on my desktop now, watching over me. More interesting and much nicer than that other well know carbonated beverage! ’

        • ‘Yay! My home appears (just) in EOTF. The Vivian St image. I like Tory St. Partly because it is my most direct route down to Courtenay Pl and the harbour. And also because some of the buildings have a zany quality to them. Like the kiwiana painted on the side of MW’s, or the zebra backpackers, or the art nouveau of the Norris Barbers building, or the odd projecting balconies added to Lone Star. I’m not sure why traffic needs to use it at all, except for building access. There generally isn’t a lot during the day, altho there are queues trying to turn in to Vivian St in the evening rush hour. I’d be all in favour of traffic calming in order to encourage traffic on to Taranaki St and Cambridge Tce. ’

    • Wayne Barrar talk at National Library
      • 14 Feb 2008
      • National Library
      • On Thursday 6 March, photographer Wayne Barrar will discuss his work in the National Library exhibition 'Manapouri: Art, Power, Protest' within the context of his ongoing investigation of the human-modified landscape. He will also consider the role of photography in articulating land-use issues. Wayne Barrar is one of four contemporary New Zealand photographers in this exhibition. His documentation of the spaces of the Manapouri power station works very differently from that of earlier photographers, who romanticised Lake Manapouri as distant, splendid and untouched by development. But unlike the photographers that documented the construction of the power station 40 years ago, Barrar stops well short of suggesting any kind of achievement of industry over nature. Venue: National Library Gallery, Molesworth Street, Wellington, 12.10pm

        • ‘Daran, keen to hear what other options and structures you think the region should consider and what you think would be the best approach. ’
        • ‘Yes, indoubtedly Wellingtonians want change. And they are right. We continually need to be looking at ways in which we can improve how we govern, administer and provide community facilities and services. The community needs confidence that councils are as effective and efficient as possible in what they do. But for all the people who want change how many will plumb for a supercity when they are polled next year? My view is that this will be less than 50% for the simple reason that while many of us want change the majority of people don’t want the more extreme position of a single council to rule us all. Unfortunately a supercity is all that is on offer from the “consultation” recently undertaken by some councils. In a game of smoke and mirrors these councils, led by Fran Wilde, have sought to manipulate the debate to being about just two options – a single tier super city or a two tier super city! Wellingtonians deserve a more sophisticated and fulsome debate on the options for change. We don’t deserve to be railroaded into reform that will effectively take the “local” out of local government. ’
