    • Final Concert for 2018!
      •   Kia Ora! What a year it has been! The choir has put in a tremendous effort into learning a large amount of repertoire over the year. Not only did we place our annual camp and tour events in the first semester, but this semester, the choir took part in Verdi’s Requiem, performing with the mighty Orpheus Choir and Orchestra Wellington on September 8th. We then performed in the ‘Triple C’ concert with Wellington Young Voices, FilChoro, and the New Zealand Youth Choir the very next day! Our schedule this year has been fairly gruelling, but the choir has been able to accomplish so much in that time! This makes us particularly excited to bring you all our final concert series of the year, under the same title; Something Borrowed, Something New. This concert showcases pieces from last trimester, and a few new ones, including the beautiful Samoan song “Le Masina E”. We are very excited to see you all there and end the year with a bang! The concert will be held at Wellington Central Baptist Church (on Boulcott Street). Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Cash on the door – $15 waged, $10 unwaged. For more information, see out facebook event link below!   https://www.facebook.com/events/1421778541258556/

    • WYC Camp 2018
      • Kia Ora! Wellington Youth Choir has been working very hard this term! We’ve welcomed several new faces to the choir, and have raced through our repertoire in anticipation of our upcoming concerts! I have been in the choir for nearly 4 years now, and going on camp has always been something I look forward to. The schedule left plenty of room for team activities and tea breaks, while still concentrating on having effective rehearsal time. Having an entire weekend for longer rehearsals allowed the choir to learn more about proper singing technique, and how to apply that to all the pieces we’ve selected for this term’s concerts. The aim of going on camp is to learn a large majority of our repertoire and to encourage the choir members to be social with one another. I believe that we were successful in both these aspects, largely due to the outstanding leadership of our musical directive team. Jared and Penny kept the choir concentrated and engaged during rehearsals, and were wonderful participants in all of our team games. Another mention should go to our accompanist Gabriel, who worked wonders at the piano, and was very patient and attentive in sectionals. Yes, some of us are holding potatoes, it’s a long story.      Forest Lakes is a fantastic place to stay; the large homestead was perfect for both rehearsals and exceptional games of hide and seek. I’m sure everyone in the choir would be more than happy to return next year. Until then, we will be practising for our upcoming concerts in the Wairarapa and in Wellington, the details of which will be not far away, so watch this space!   Finally, I’d like to thank the WYC committee, for their hard work in organising the camp, and all the hard work they are currently putting into our upcoming tour. Bring on the rest of 2018!   – Tahlia.

    • WYC Camp 2017

We even have a sweet video from it all which is linked below: We’re all looking forward to performing our pieces at our first concert series in May, so keep an eye out for details coming soon!
