Wellington is facing rising sea levels
- 4 Dec 2009
- Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
- At the Wellington City Council Strategy and Policy Committee briefing of December 1 we were shown a computer model of the areas of Wellington that would be flooded by sea level rise as a consequence of global warming. One of the areas that may be impacted is the site of the Indoor Sports Centre. There is no doubt there will be consequences that will be beyond our control even if Wellington were to reduce green house gas emissions.

- 2 Sep 2009
- Newswire.co.nz
- NEARING 80 and a long-term resident of Kilbirnie, Jill Nickel is unfazed at the huge growth tipped for her suburb in the next 20 years. She and husband Jack won’t be around to see it, says Mrs Nickel. But the indoor sports centre, due to be built outside her residence in Kemp St later this year, is causing her concern.

Indoor community sports centre may force flyover
- 29 Apr 2009
- While I certainly don't want to give up on fighting to stop the flyover being built at the Basin Reserve, a friend recently pointed out that there is another issue that I had not yet considered. And, it is one that could quite likely lead to construction of both the flyover and duplication of the Mt Victoria Tunnel.

Review arrives at Cobham Park
- 22 Apr 2009
- Capital Times
- THE Indoor Community Sports Centre verdict (ICSC) is in. The Cobham Drive site wins. Mike Mellor, the only person to make a submission against the Cobham site apart from Councillor Andy Foster, says Sir John Anderson’s report, which reviewed two options for the ICSC, ignores transport concerns.

Call the Commissioner
- 14 Apr 2009
- Eye of the Fish
- The Commissioners have been busy of late. When the going gets tough, in a small city like this, there’s only one thing to do: call in the Commissioner. The big news for Wellington is of course that Indoor Sports Centre is ready to rumble. Yes, the independent Commissioner, John Anderson, has prepared his final report and is ready to report back to Wellington on the result today or tomorrow.

News Flash: Stadium site it is
- 31 Mar 2009
- Eye of the Fish
- In a move that has completely flummoxed us fishy writers, Mayor Kerry Prendergast, we’re pleased to scoop (in that newsworthy way), will soon announce that the new Inner City Sports Facility will indeed be shifted back to the central city site next to the Stadium. Groans have been heard from school children in Kilbirnie - but hey, that’s life in a big city where the political move

Andy responds on indoor sports centre issue
- 18 Feb 2009
- Andy Foster
- Response to Poneke Webblog. This is Wellington’s biggest most expensive ever recreation facility. Westpac Stadium cost less in terms of public money ! Therefore we must get it right. Ask anyone what the great strengths of Wellington are and I’m certain ‘compact’ and ‘walkable’ will be close to the top of most lists. Wellington City Council should be doing everything it can to build it’s indoor stadium in the heart of the city where it is most easily accessed by foot, cycle, public transport, and car. The proposal to build it at Cobham Park next to the airport just does not make sense.

Obstacle delays wellington basketball's new home!
- 10 Feb 2009
- Wellington Basketball Association
- After the exciting news of the resource management consent approved for the project, on the last day of the 15 working day appeal period, a lone Councillor - Andy Foster lodged an appeal. Not very popular as you read Resignation calls in sports centre row on the Stuff News website. Please lodge your support for ICSC and cast your vote on the website as we desperately need a new facility, otherwise we may never have one in our lieftime!

Indoor Sports Centre
- 9 Feb 2009
- Eye of the Fish
- The Eye of the Fish has tried to keep away from the whole sorry saga of the Sports Centre, but recent developments deserve a forum for comment. The entire Sports Centre fad has escaped by the Fish, for whom the idea of 12 courts full of screaming netballers sounds more like a living hell than a place we’d ever want to go to. Apparently even 12 courts is a small number, claim the supporters,
