      • Now that the wind's gone (calloo callay!) and the sun's out (oh frabjous day!), wouldn't it be a lovely time to wander down to the waterfront and see the much photographed Water Whirler do its thing? Not so fast, matey boy, someone has had other ideas.

      • CLOUDS “scudding” over the bay in Wellington inspired Len Lye to design the Water Whirler. The sculpture, to be installed in Frank Kitts Park on March 7, was built by the Len Lye Foundation, a non-profit society which acts to conserve, reproduce and promote the works of the late Kiwi artist and filmmaker.

      • BACK in the days when some people fretted about the Y2K bug, others were planning projects to mark the new millennium. One of those projects is set to get under way, six years later. Construction of kinetic artist Len Lye’s Water Whirler in Frank Kitts Park will commence in the week after Waitangi Day, says Wellington Sculpture Trust chairman Neil Plimmer.
