Coastguard Mana / July 2022

Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

Vessel was drifting to the North from Mana Island.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 24/07/2022 - 15:50 - 17:50 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  4 Total Volunteer Hours:  4 Received a call that a dog (on a boat) had a large fish hook embedded in its mouth. MR1 responded with bolt croppers.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 21/07/2022 - 16:00 - 17:35 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  9 A yacht on the pole moorings broke loose in a southerly storm, swung onto another vessel and holed it. Harbour masters team responded and requested CGM support to get the yacht to a lift out point. Harbours team were pumping the yacht out but it sank before the CRV could get to the scene.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 04/07/2022 - 19:00 - 21:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  8 Total Volunteer Hours:  5 Susea had left Mana Marina for an afternoons fishing (new engine and stern leg fitted) As they were returning the engine overheated and smoked, at position 41° 5.617'S, 174° 49.372'E, Susea put out a PANPAN and a sea anchor but drifted close into a rocky shore. They dropped a main anchor and stabilized position. MR1 took Susea under tow back to the marina Vessel Details Length:  8.00m Resources Attendees:  Devine Mark Presling CRV's Used:  Mana Rescue 1
