Building a road and saving 30 seconds

One of the most extraordinary things about plans to bulldoze a road through the pristine Takapu Valley is the claim about how much time will be saved. They’re counting the savings in seconds.

The claim is found in an Appendix to the controversial report in which the chief executives of regional councils tell their mayors that they ought to support a road through the valley.

Trams or trains – what 3 studies proposed

The reality of the noise problem on Johnsonville trains (which brought complaints last week) is that the heavy rail electric multiple units which provide the service are at their limits on the line, although it now has the best on-time performance of any rail line in Wellington – 94%, even with the clapped-out English Electrics that were in use till June.

Threat to Johnsonville property values? Planning changes become election issue

The Johnsonville Progressive Association has today been describing a basic fear of property owners whose savings are in their houses. The association says that Johnsonville residents are upset by the Wellington City Council’s District Plan Change 72, which councilors will be voting on tomorrow. It fears that the changes will push their suburb down the socio-economic ladder. And if Johnsonville goes down, down with it will go the value of the houses.
