Lifeguard shortage leads to temporary pool closure

- A nationwide shortage of lifeguards means Tawa Pool will temporarily close to the general public later this month – but a recruitment drive is in place to address the issue.

2022 Div II – What a blast!
- Tawa Swimming Club
- The team set off for Dunedin to compete in the Div II competition on Saturday 7 May for five days of racing. The team consisted of 12 swimmers and 4 parents, with another 2 swimmers and 2 parents joining the team later in the week. We’d lost one team member due to testing positive for Covid a couple of days earlier, but this was the largest team the club has taken to Div II in recent memory. On arrival, we explored Larnach Castle and the iconic Baldwin street (the worlds steepest street). We spent hours at the castle and the kids were fascinated by how people lived back then. We escaped Baldwin street without any injuries, the main aim of coach Nadia!

2022 NAGS wrap up
- Tawa Swimming Club
- The National Age Group Swimming Championships (NAGS) started off unusually for Tawa, with the swimmers competing the first couple of days visibly nervous and the team uncharacteristically quiet. The swims were not quite where they should have been, places in finals (top 8 swimmers) were limited, and we just seemed a little bit lost.

Farewell to coach Cliff Roberts
- Tawa Swimming Club
- It's with regret that we farewell Cliff Roberts as a coach from Tawa Swimming Club. Anyone who knows of our club will recognise Cliff as he has been a constant poolside. Cliff started coaching with the club when his son Justin joined the club 16 years ago. Cliff started off as a volunteer coach at club level before moving into a coaching position in our junior competitive squads. He also qualified as a national IOT and has acted in that capacity for the club for a number of years.

The Saga of Wellington LC Champs
- Tawa Swimming Club
- Wellington LC Champs certainly did not quite turn out as we expected. The warnings signs for a change to a Red traffic light setting were there on Friday, but we let out a collective sigh of relief when it didn't happen. At that stage we then thought that we would see the competition through. We all turned up bright eyed and bushy tailed at WRAC just before 7am on Saturday morning (well most of us, there are always a few stragglers!). The general mood amongst the group was positive, and the feeling was that the training leading into champs was going to pay off. The competition was certainly going to be tough, with more out of region than local swimmers competing at the meet. Some of which were national title holders.

Change of time & venue of Tawa Meet

2008 SW 12 & Under Club League ends in nail biter
- Swimming Wellington
- The 2008 SW 12 & under Club League finished with the closest contest on record with three teams separated by just 4 points when the league concluded at Cannons Creek last night. The Mana Black team prevailed with 558.5 points, just 1.5 points ahead of second placed Tawa, with Raumati 2.5 points further back in third.
