Zealandia Visit

- The Kaiwharawhara Stream is one of Wellington’s most precious waterways running from the higher hills of the Zealandia wildlife sanctuary, through the western suburbs of the Wellington Region and down Ngaio Gorge, to the stream mouth at Kaiwharawhara point where it flows into the sea. Zealandia’s ‘Sanctuary to Sea Kia Mauriora te Kaiwharawhara’ catchment project has a 100-year vision to restore the mouri, or lifeforce, of this incredible place. They are working with a number of strategic partners to engage people with the catchment, improve fish habitats throughout the catchment, enhance fish migration pathways, and improve forest corridors for birds leaving the sanctuary.
