Too many buses, too many queues
- 1 Oct 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- Bus Rapid Transit was to run between three interchanges, at the Railway Station, Wellington Regional Hospital and Kilbirnie. Now it looks too light for the job, which probably means light rail.

Councillor Morrison’s call centre
- 11 Sep 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- So soon after his self-appointed stint as Peter Jackson’s spokesperson, John Morrison yesterday emerged as a spokesperson for a recently-arrived Wellington call centre. His DomPost interview last week “confirming plans” for a Lord of the Rings museum in the CBD brought a quick denial from Peter Jackson that “nothing is decided or resolved.” It seemed Councillor Morrison was trying to take credit for someone else’s project – and one that had not yet taken shape.

Opus and the flyover
- 9 Sep 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- It’s evident that the Wellington consulting company Opus is being employed to give substantial support to the Transport Agency’s plan for a flyover alongside the Basin Reserve. This is shown by the fact that of the 21 technical reports commissioned by the Agency in favour of the flyover, ten of them were written by Opus.

What the owners didnt know: unsafe care, unsafe driving, unsafe buses
- 3 Sep 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- It’s taken an audit and a court case to uncover flaws in the organisation of two big companies which provide important services to Wellingtonians. One of the companies has admitted it was at fault. The other one (“we’re not perfect”) is denying responsibility.

“We’re not perfect”
- 2 Sep 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- “We’re not perfect,” says the CEO of NZ Bus, Zane Fulljames. This was after a second series of faults had been found in his Wellington buses. His words (for some reason they remind me of the last scene in Some Like It Hot) are being widely repeated. But it’s no joke. It’s the second time his company has been shown to be less than perfect. In May, there were four weeks of disruptions after his buses were pink-stickered because they were unsafe. Wasn’t everything supposed to have been fixed by now?

Divided over the flyover
- 23 Aug 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- The city council has voted in favour of a flyover at the Basin Reserve, in spite of the fact that the city continues to be deeply divided over the issue. The vote, by 7 to 6, is a disappointment for Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, who has argued against the flyover since she successfully campaigned for the mayoralty against the pro-flyover mayor Kerry Prendergast. It was a narrow win, and for a while the new council had a one-vote majority against the flyover. But then Andy Foster changed sides.

They didn’t like it but they voted yes
- 22 Aug 2013
- Wellington Scoop
- I wish I’d been at yesterday’s Regional Council meeting. I would like to have heard more about why two regional councillors voted to support the Basin Reserve flyover after explaining why they didn’t like it. The DomPost reports from the meeting about the reluctant “yes” votes from Judith Aitken and Chris Laidlaw.
