- Twenty new Matangi trains are now in service on the Hutt Valley and Kapiti lines. These trains are operating thirty-one return trips every weekday. In addition to a number of off-peak services, the Hutt line has Matangi operating on seven return services during the morning peak and five return services during the evening peak. The Kapiti line has seven evening peak services and five morning peak services delivered by Matangi.

- Today, Matangi services more than doubled on the Kapiti and Hutt Valley lines – increasing from the current 14 daily return trips to more than 30 return trips every weekday. Tranz Metro Manager Scott Brooks, calls it great news for commuters “who we know have felt the impact of service disruptions over the last couple of weeks, and we are very pleased to be able to bring them some good news.”

Matangi Train on new inaugural fare paying run – Footage

- Well, it arrives. The new Matangi train is not an urban myth, as footage below shows it on its first run ex Wellington 9.00am. Only two carriages, as was also expected. Didn’t get onboard, but had a sneak peak inside from the outside. Got to laugh wondered why the door didn’t open, you need to press the button, modern.

Partial closure of Petone Station platforms - 30 August to mid October

- We’re getting the Petone platform ready for the arrival of the new ‘Matangi’ trains in 2010. From 30 August to mid October, half of each platform will be closed. So if you’re travelling to or from Petone Station make sure you travel in the front 4 carriages of the train, or if you’re on the Wairarapa service use the front 3 carriages.

Khandallah Station Western Platform Closed - April 21 to June 9
