    • Open day - be there!
      • 21 Dec 2006
      • ZL6QH Quartz Hill User Group
      • There will be an open day at Quartz Hill for supporters, all radio amateurs, SWLs, their families and friends, on Sunday 4 February 2007 - from 11:00 am onwards. You will be able to view the Quartz Hill facilities. This may be your last chance to see this fabulous facility in its current form as it is likely that we will have to dismantle antenna infrastructure over the coming year (to make way for the wind farm project).

    • Rocky out crops
      • 29 Sep 2006
      • T3 Track Blog
      • These pictures are of 2 rocky out crops on the track, they have been ridden both ways so are deemed to be finished. As you can see by the before and after photos a lot of earth and rock has been moved to make them just right. These two sections were like big jigsaws puzzle to design, trying to fit in the nice natural rock features and make it tricky at the same time.

      • The track has already been started and about 100mtrs is rideable from the Vertigo end up, but as you will be able to see by the design map it is by no means finished, there are several features to be put along this part of the track, and a whole heap more along the rest of it.

    • Gravel!
      • 9 Jul 2006
      • Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park
      • In their infinite wisdom, the marvellous folk at Wellington City Council have decided to give us some gravel for Koru. It will be flown in by helicopter half a cubic metre at a time to various drop sites on Koru. How can you help? We need volunteers on the day.

    • Wind damage at Quartz Hill
      • 13 Jun 2006
      • ZL6QH Quartz Hill User Group
      • Wellington was battered by a wild storm with severe northerly winds on Sunday night 11 June 2006. Bob ZL2AMI was at Quartz Hill during the storm, participating in the ANARTS RTTY contest. He reports that wind was the strongest that has experienced at the station. Evidently the wind was gusting up to 145 km/hr at Mt KauKau, which is only a few kilometres away from Quartz Hill.

    • Report on Activity Day
      • 4 Mar 2006
      • ZL6QH Quartz Hill User Group
      • As forecast we were greeted by a cold southerly blast at the Quartz Hill Activity Day on Saturday 4 March. The wind was extremely strong and the gusts often made it difficult to stand upright. The odd hail shower also made working outside less than comfortable :-)

    • 2006 annual summer open day and BBQ
      • 17 Jan 2006
      • ZL6QH Quartz Hill User Group
      • The 2006 annual summer open day and BBQ was held on 15 January. Quartz Hill lived up to its reputation and turned on a brisk and cool northerly wind, so it was not the best day for bathing in the sun! Howver this did not deter 27 people, including four children, who made the pilgramage to the event.

      • The original receiving station operated by the (then) New Zealand Broadcasting Service was housed in what was affectionately know to us as the ???KG-Six??? building. It became redundant after the main building that we now occupy was built in the 1950s.

    • Five years on the Peak
      • 17 Jun 2003
      • Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park
      • Five years ago {Makara} Peak was a a bit of a wreck. There was 8km of service road and a whole lot of gorse and barberry. The Council were thinking of letting mountainbikers move in and develop tracks, but this was a pretty radical idea at the time.<p> Since then, over 15 km of track have been built and about 14,000 seedlings planted. To celebrate, we'll be having a barbecue at the planting on Sunday. There'll even be some beer and cake (and some chocolate biscuits of course).
