Mau Whenua | Save Shelly Bay

Mau Whenua is a collective of Taranaki Whānui iwi members who made their opposition to proposed sale of iwi land at Shelly Bay known in late 2015 and early 2016. The land at Shelly Bay is highly significant and represents over 50% of the value of Taranaki Whānui Treaty Settlement assets in Wellington. The term Mau Whenua describes those who oppose land sales, and are determined to hold onto land and engage in environmentally and socially constructive development.

We represent the interests of residents and community groups in Khandallah, Broadmeadows and Kaiwharawhara. For as long as we can remember, our three areas have not had an active and effective body through which their collective views can be expressed to local government and other groups.

A City for People

Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.

Titahi Bay Residents Association

The Titahi Bay Residents Association (TBRA) was formed in 1995 by local residents keen to support their community and promote its seaside village and beautiful beach for the benefit of the wider community. One of our first missions was to gain official recognition for the unique layout of the beach with boat sheds, tractors for boat launching at each end, and therefore a need for special rules for vehicles.
