Vessel located and towed to mooring behind Mana Island. Moored off and mechanic taken on board the following morning of 29/12. Engine successfully started. No further support required. Actual time (5 hrs) was split across two days, but is reported as a single block here. The dinghy davits on one vessel had caught on the stays of another and they were pushing against each other in the strong current.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 30/04/2011 - 09:00 - 15:00 Operation Type:  Other People Assisted:  10 Coastguard Mana spent the day on the water with a crew of volunteers to assist the organisers of the Mana Ocean Race Challenge - a 29km paddle for outrigger canoes, kayaks and surf skis that took them from Mana to Paraparaumu Beach. Conditions on the day started off calm with light southerlies, but the wind built to around 20 knots later in the course creating some more challenging seas conditions for the competitors.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 27/02/2011 - 06:00 - 14:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Porirua Rescue stood by the 9 metre yacht "Overload" this morning she was participating in the 2 handed around North Island race and damaged her shift keel mechanism in heavy seas North of Kapiti on Saturday. Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast units were involved in shepherding the yacht down to a safe anchorage overnight. The Coastguard Mana Incident Management Team became involved late Saturday evening and made contact with the yachts master and with members of the Mana Cruising Club for advice on getting "Overload" which draws 2.7 metres into safety at Mana. CRV Pelorus took some new recruits off Trust Porirua Rescue (that had been training) and TPR immediately responded to the scene. Light was fading by this stage and finding the dinghy in the dark was very difficult as they did not have any form of lighting or signalling equipment with them, no VHF, and their cellphone battery was dying - an all too common occurance!       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 08/02/2011 - 21:00 - Wed, 09/02/2011 - 12:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 Police received a report of a boat seen drifting north from the Plimmerton area around Te Rewarewa Point (known locally as Tea Gardens) towards Pukerua Bay in heavy seas. The witness spotted the vessel from the top of the hill at Whiteraia Park and believed that it was drifting, possibly broken down. Coastguard Mana crew members were already in the area for their regular training night and responded in the rescue vessel Trust Porirua Rescue to search for the boat.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 28/12/2010 - 21:10 - 23:10 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 A concerned resident phoned the police to inform them of 2 curious looking yellow objects about 600 metres off shore  between Archon Road and Shell Mana.  Coastguard put both its vessels out to look for them and quickly established that they were not in fact people on boogie boards, but in fact a newly placed bright yellow buoy.       • The new Lady Liz arrived in Wellington on Saturday to be greated by a group of local Wellington boaties. She is a catamaran and is slightly larger than the previos Lady Liz. Capable of speeds in excess of 30 knots she looks set to provide a great platform for the Wellington Harbour Police to continue their outstanding service to the Wellignton commnuity. She will be officially welcomed to the city at a function at Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club later this month.
