      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 21/04/2012 - 16:00 - 17:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  10 A 20ft vessel broke down near the south end of Mana Island after encountering Kelp on the shallow area between Green Point and Mana Island, known as "The Bridge". There were 3 people on board and had been fishing in the area. They were wearing lifejackets and made contact with Police, contact method unknown at time of writing. Coastguard Mana was called out by Police and CRV Trust Porirua Rescue was dispatched to tow them home with 6 crew on board. The vessel was taken under tow and safely returned to Mana Marina. TPR intercepted when the boat was returning to shore in poor visibility and moderate chop. It turned out that he hadn't been in distress and was simply out there diving while his boat was anchored up.     • Swimmers caught in tidal stream in channel

      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 09/02/2012 - 16:30 - 16:45 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  1 Two swimmers were caught in the tidal flow exiting the channel into Porirua Harbour on an outgoing tide. This pushed them out of the channel entrance towards Goat Point. The swimmers were spotted waving and screaming for assistance and Coastguard Mana was activated by Police to assist. A training crew was already onboard Trust Porirua Rescue in the marina, engines fired up and ready to depart on a training excercise, when the call came through. They were able to depart immediately and were on scene within 3 minutes of the call from Police.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 13/02/2012 - 14:40 - 15:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  7 I diver was reported as missing south of Mana Island near Makara Beach. Coastguard Mana activated a callout but were stood down at 15:30, just as we were about to depart Mana Marina, as the diver had been located safe and well. A vessel had dropped off the diver at 12:30 and then went to a different location, due to return and pick them up at 13:20. When the vessel returned they couldn't locate the diver and started a search, calling Police by phone.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 04/02/2012 - 18:00 - 23:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  15 Coastguard Mana was tasked by Police to recover a broken down vessel with three people on board from Ohau Point, south of Makara Beach. When CRV Trust Porirua Rescue arrived on scene it was discovered that two of the people had already been returned by another vessel to Makara Beach. The remaining person was towed back to Mana. The vessel was a 17ft runabout that had experienced mechanical failure.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 22/01/2012 - 16:30 - 17:10 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  1 A float plane was having difficulty taxiing to the jetty in high winds inside Porirua Harbour. The pilot contacted the Fire Service to request standby assistance and they contacted Coastguard Mana for on-water assistance in case there were any difficulties with getting to the jetty safely. Incident Management Team members from Coastguard Mana and the local fire crew attended from the shore. The plane safely taxied to the intended jetty and no further assistance was required. Initially flat battery - jump started & headed to Paremata boat ramp - motor died opposite Hongeka Bay - run out of fuel - boat taken under tow @ 2025.       • On Tuesday the 12th of January two American tourists became embroiled in a road rage incident when cycling through Newtown in Wellington. Emergency Response Manager, Inspector Paris Razos says “Last night Police arrested the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. A 39 year old man has been charged with common assault and will appear in Wellington District Court on Wednesday.”

A large search was performed by Coastguard Mana's vessels Trust Porirua Rescue and CRV Pelorus. Shoreline searches were performed around the whole of Mana Island and all the way down the West coast as far as Makara Beach, while Titahi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club covered the shoreline and immediate area around Titahi Bay. Sea conditions were very rough with 1-2m waves and up to 30 knots of NW wind (slightly less than the previous day).       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 14/01/2012 - 16:00 - 20:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  40 Coastguard Mana was tasked to search for a missing swimmer at Titahi Bay after a group of swimmers were caught in a rip. Emergency services responded to reports of a group of four swimmers in trouble at about 4pm. Most of the group were rescued but one was still unaccounted for. CRV Trust Porirua Rescue has been searching in conjunction with Westpac Rescue and Titahi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club since 1700, while CRV Pelorus had to turn back due to severe sea conditions. TPR returned to base at 2030 and will resume the search early on Sunday morning.
