Mark Kozelek - San Francisco Bathhouse, Thursday 31 July
- Texture
- Some eight years ago, a friend handed me a CD he had just bought. He said, "you should have this. I don't like it, it's probably more your sort of thing."It was a double album called Retrospective by 90s San Francisco group Red House Painters, a band I'd not heard of.

Belmont Off-Line
- Wellington VHF Group
- The Belmont repeater site has been shut down. The storm over the weekend of 28/29 June has broken the 11kV power line on the Belmont side of the gully. A small slip on the pylon access road and poor track conditions are hampering access. With another bout of bad weather approaching it may be several days before the slip can be cleared and the line is repaired. Anyone who is willing to help clear the slip should contact Peter ZL3TC on (04) 938 3386 or 021 185 0640. Services will be restored as soon as possible.

Ballantyne Cup, 9k-2.6k handicap races, Strand Park
- Wellington Scottish Athletics Club
- The round-the-stopbanks races enjoyed conditions far better than forecast. Peter Stevens won the 1921 Ballantyne Memorial Cup after a delayed start (distracted by encouraging his daughter Julieta in the J-team race). Jeff Galt and Natham Bramley were second the third under handicap. Belinda Buck is the holder of the women's Shirley Barton Trophy for 2008, with Karen Jenkinson and returnee Barbara Tucker the runners-up.
